I have a beerglass with a cartoon and "Stammtisch der Bettshöner." It's a bunch of guys around a table drinking and one of them is thinking about his wife waiting up for him in bed. I know what a Stammtisch is but what does Bettshöner exactly mean?

I'm thinking it's like the joke about the guy who keeps a picture of his wife in his pocket and goes out drinking and doesn't go home until the picture looks good. "Bett" means bed and "Schoener" could mean thing that makes something more beautiful (or in the case of what the previous answerer (and it sounds right) said is what a literal Bettschoener is, more comfortable.

I can't translate the entire phrase for you 'coz I can't make it make enough sense, but a Bettschoener is a cover for the matress of a bed (not the bedsheet itself, but a matress cover that would lie underneath the bedsheet).
