No - I have to agree with some of the other people. There are rude people everywhere but it is true that some people in the South haven't gotten past the Civil War. Hello...it's been 200 years or so - move on already! I live in upstate NY and there are lots of nice people here (and rude ones too). NYC ... well that's a problem!

It isn't that people in the south are ruder, it is the fact that they talk a whole lot sslloowweerr than the rest of the country so your brain has a chance to decipher their rude comments.

I think you're mistaken, sweetie. I was born and raised in the south, but I have travelled all over the north. The phrase "southern hospitality" was coined for a reason. I don't think that people in the south are actually any *nicer* than anyone else....there are nice/mean people everywhere. People in the south usually just don't say mean things to a person's face.

Not at all.
I have traveled quite a bit, all over the world, and I think it is mostly a function of big cities versus small cities. Country people seem to have an insentive to cooperate and get along. In any case, Southern people are normally not rude unless provoked. Florida and California has mainly transplants and there may be some exceptions there but I would take the opposite opinion.

Well that depends on who u meet in the south there r some people that r Jerks b/c they have that southern pride crap going on and still r upset about the civil war but 4 the most part we ain't that bad and plus i've seen more rude people in New york city alone than in the south. That's just my opinion.

People are just ruder everywhere.People are rude in other countries as well. The rudeness epidemic has grown to such proportions, that Lynn Truss has written a rather humorous book about it called Talk to the Hand. She's English and travels a lot and has noticed how people everywhere are acting.

Youre kidding right? The south is definitely more polite than the north... though there are nice people and buttholes everywhere!! Now, folks in the south will talk about you behind your back as quick as anyone else will... but they definite have more common courtesy and initial kindness.

No quite the opposite, I lived in NYC for many years, my whole life, and moved to South Florida 2 years ago, and it's like a whole different world down here people are much nicer and more polite, except on the roadway, rude drivers much worse than NY and NJ believe it or not!!!!!!!!!

That's funny the people in the south think it's the other way around.

That's because regional cultures dictate certain social rules. So what is considered polite in the south is considered rude in the north and vice versa.

It's because all of the rude northeners have moved down south and have corrupted us! I'm a Georgia peach (I live in Atlanta) and I'll admit I've become a rude person after running into so many RUDE New Yorkers down here. I guess bad behavior just rubs off....
