What are the steps to learning Italian? I'm sure learning the alphabet would be the first step, but what would the steps be after that? Thanks so much!

I think the easiest way to learn a new language is to be immersed in it... in your case, go to Italy. If that's not possible, a good option is to see if there are any Italian classes you can take in your community. Otherwise, try to meet up with someone who has Italian as a first or at least a fluent language. It's very difficult to learn a language on a more than conversational basis outside of these methods.

In learning another language, verbal communication is the most important. The Italian alphabet has fewer letters than English, but of course they are pronounced differently, and the spelling is easy & straightforward.
Learn to speak to people about real life & everyday situations ..... greetings would be far more useful to start a conversation than saying ' a.... b ... c...' to them.

First, get a verb-conjugation book (it's very tiny and cheap) and memorize some verbs such as 'essere' and 'avere' (to be-to have). Then listen to some Italian music and search for the lyrics on line and translate them. Then chat with some Italians on line who are willing to help. That's how i learned.
