Could be Feline Uninary Syndrome (FUS). This is FATAL if not treated. I had a one year old cat die of this because I didn't know what it is. His litter mate came down with it a few months later and that was 15 years ago. He's still with me. It's very treatable, but it could kill him. Take him to the Vet ASAP!

CALL THE VET....
he probably is drinking more water you just are not aware, cats prefer FRESH water and people dont often change the cats water bowl frequently so the toilet water is fresher....
is he peeing alot? that would mean he is drinking more than once a week
if he is pooping alot (regular formed stools) it means you are feeding a crappy food with lots of filler- which could also be why he is sleepy.... (chicken, turkey or lamb meal need to be first ingedient - not corn or by-products which are filler)

How old is he? do you know what he does when you are sleeping? He may be doing business as usual at night.
You could call a vet and maybe they can answer some of your questions over the phone.
Good Luck!

Take him to the vet, he could have a bladder or kidney infection or diabetes. They go to the bathroom alot when they have any of those, peeing I mean. They won't eat, sleep alot, and just drink water and feel yucky. If has one of those, he will get worse and probably die without medical help so please take him as soon as possible. If you can check his pee for blood, and if you can get a sample even better.

Well i suggest you watch him closely, but take him to the vet. I have no idea what is wrong. but if you think something is wrong with your cat listen to your instincts and have it checked out by your local veterinarian. When in doubt, check it out! I am very concerned and wish you and your best friend (your cat) only the bestest luck, and i hope he is alright and that it was just something you were wrong about. Not that i am saying that you are wrong, i am just saying to hope that you are wrong about your cat being sick and that he really is fine.

Maybe your cat is depressed. Treat him extra nice. Care for him even more. Let him know you love him.
