He was just one of many charismatic 'messiahs' at that time, but his philosophy caught on.

No, for this reason: if he was anything less than God, then he was not a gifted phillosopher, but a loonatic or a liar. He claimed Godhood, something a man gifted at seeing things clearly would never do--unless that man was God or was knowingly lying. Either way, the "extraordinary man" theory doesn't make much logical sense. (this is sometimes called the "tri-option" argument)

(feel free to contact me for a longer explanation of this logic, this is a conversation I wouldn't mind going further with)

No. For Jesus to have made the claims He did, ie "I and the Father are one," "No man comes to the Father but by me," and to be only a gifted philosopher, He'd be equal to a poached egg, which of course He wasn't. I'd recommend Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis.

The bible is not an accurate historical account. Nothing in the text can be proven at all. I think it is probably more likely that it is a fictional story. Not that it would disprove the existance of a god, because anything is possible.

Yes. Although "nothing more" kind of downplays his influence. Even if he wasn't the "son of God" his teachings were very persuasive and many people are still influenced by them today. I'm not Catholic (or even Christian) but still have to respect his message - he believed that people should be good to each other.

That's what I think. I think Jesus was a great guy, a great teacher, but divine? I doubt it.

No, it is not more likely. Jesus was God's son and was born and died to save us from our sins. That is my belief.

Indeed. That's the whole reason he was killed. He was giving people a way to think for themselves.
