Uhm yeah that's the jist of it, but it literally means "What will be, will be." Sera(accented a) is the future tense of the Spanish verb "ser", one of the two verbs meaning "to be." "Ser" means "to be" in the sense of a long-lasting thing, as in height or color. "Estar" is used to define locations and/or conditions.

This song was popular in my childhood.

Que Sera, Sera
Doris Day

[Written by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans]

When I was just a little girl
I asked my mother
What will I be
Will I be pretty
Will I be rich
Here's what she said to me

Que sera, sera
Whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours to see
Que sera, sera
What will be, will be

When I grew up and fell in love
I asked my sweetheart
What lies ahead
Will we have rainbows
Day after day
Here's what my sweetheart said

Que sera, sera
Whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours to see
Que sera, sera
What will be, will be

Now I have Children of my own
They ask their mother
What will I be
Will I be handsome
Will I be rich
I tell them tenderly

Que sera, sera
Whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours to see
Que sera, sera
What will be, will be
Que Sera, Sera

This song was written for
Alfred Hitchcock's 1956 re-make
Of his 1934 film "The Man Who Knew Too Much"
Starring Doris Day & Jimmy Stewart

Basically, yeah! That saying is most known from an old Doris Day movie in which she sings "Que Sera Sera"-whatever will be, will be.

Que Sera Sera translates in English to "whatever will be will be".

"Que Sera Sera" is an actual song (bit of trivia).

it's a French idiom, and pretty much means what you thought.
there is a song ( from the 50s or early 60s) that uses the translation

"whatever will be, will be."

The literal tranlation is 'what will be, will be'. So 'whatever happens, happens' is a pretty good approximation. Good guessing!
