Flying from Florida to Alaska is a long trip. Depending on the airline you fly, maybe there will be a small TV in the back of the seat in front of you and you can watch movies and TV shows. Airlines also have different channels that play music. The airlines also have an in-flight magazine that you can read. There are some interesting articles in them. But to be safe, bring a book with you. The best thing to do is to try to sleep through the whole trip. That way you arrive at your destination refreshed.
As for what to wear, wear something comfortable and bring a sweater or jacket which can be used a pillow or blanket. The inside of an airplane can be chilly at times and airlines may have gotten rid of pillows and blankets. Even if they had them, do you really want to use those things after someone else used it?
Most important things to bring on your trip are your boarding ticket and some form of picture I.D.

Don't drink a lot of alcohol; you'll have to get up to pee too often, which will wreck being able to sleep. And sleeping is the best thing to do on the flight!
I like to do crossword puzzles on the plane. That's a really good way to pass the time.
Make sure your Ipod and laptop batteries are completely full before getting on the plane because you may not be able to find an on-board electrical outlet to recharge.
Buy the inflight movie, even if it's a stupid one, because they usually show reruns of TV shows after the movie. Save the headsets for the return flight; once you buy the headsets, they're yours--- no need to buy another set to see the stupid movie on the way back. And save your Ipod or laptop time for when the movie and TV are over--- if you run out of batteries AND there's no cheese-ball movie to watch, you'll be climbing the walls.
Dress in layers, and bring a poncho or shawl-type sweater because blankets are getting rare on planes and you want to be comfortable if it gets cold.

I totally get how your feeling! I'm moving to Paris in less than two weeks and its a 12 hour flight from Los Angeles (where I live currently) to Paris. Reading can be very amusing if you have the right book, you could get some cross-words or word searches, most air planes show movies and if you don't like the movies you could always bring a portable DVD player, and if you don't have one you can always download podcasts or episodes of your favorite TV shows off of iTunes, since you said you have an iPod. I hope that helps!!

Sleep the flight away seems to be the only answer but anything helps. Take acouple of hand games with you or put some on your laptop. Anything you do at home to kill time is almost as good in flight too, although you can't bake cookies.

Dress in something very comfortable. I always wear tennis shoes when I am flying because I know I will be walking a lot in the airport.
If you like to read, pick up a couple of good books and put them in your carry-on. Download some good games to your laptop. (Diner Dash is fun and addictive)

Sleep is good. I slept most of the time on my trip to Australia while listening to my cd player. Do make sure you walk around a bit like to the restroom to stretch your legs. Look at the local weather forecast on www.wx.com and do a city search on on yahoo weather so you can plan ahead for the weather. HAve a great flight!!

1) How about skiing? You'll be the only one skiing aboard.
2) Long-distance running - bowl over any cabin crew in your way.
