Sebastian is 6 years old and has always jumped up onto the sink to get the water that was dripping.Even though I always put out fresh water for him.My other cat Mr.Kitty Kat a 1 year old will only drink water from the commode.Go figure neither cat will drink from their cat dish.

That is what you got him used to. Also, cats are not dumb like dogs. They know when water is fresh or not. They prefer fresh. They also sell small cat feeding bowls that have a continous waterfall on them which cats love as it flows the water just like a sink. Ask at the per store about and get that.

My cat will only drink this way, as well. Part of the reason, I think, is that he's just weird. But I think the bigger reason is that the running water is fresher than water that has sat stagnant in a bowl all day. We bought ours a little water fountain, and that has saved us from having to run the faucet whenever he gets thirsty.

Cats have thoughts and your cat can think and he chose to drink directly from the facet because he knows he can.

cats prefer running water to standing water. I think it's the only way that can know it's clean. What I like is my cat paws the floor and then drinks out of his bowl.

My cat does the same, never knew why though... Maybe it's something about the water coming from above that makes it easier to catch than having to dip their tongues into a bowl and catch it? Maybe they get more water in one go that way? Comfort reasons? Just speculation :-)

Do you like water that has been sitting around all day?

Some cats prefer fresh water. He appears to be one of them.

My cat does that too-lol-they are so cute when they do it{at least i think so},Apparently its natural, when like wild cats were around,{there grt grt grt grt ancestors}they always had to adapt to drinking from running waters..like in springs and rivers, the running water does also attracts them{especially younger cats},they think its fresher and is less bactericide so really its healthy for them.........good luck to you and your cat!
