getting kids involved in things at an early age is good for them it teaches them a skill and how to be part of a team and when they get older being involved with stuff like that keeps kids too busy to get in much trouble plus it gives the mother a little break from them but 3 1/2 hours may be a bit long

That is a long time for a dance recital for 3 year olds. Are you sure the recital wasn't for an entire dance school with different age groups? Perhaps the 3 year olds only danced a small portion of the recital but your grandparents decided to stay for the whole performance, which is the polite thing to do.
I don't believe 3 is too young for a class such as dance. I was taking swimming lessons at 2 and continued until I was 12, and it gave me a lot of confidence in myself in the water. Plus, little kids learn things much easier than adults. The younger you begin to learn something, the better you will be at it if you decided to keep doing it as you get older.

A 3 1/2 hour long dance recital would be quite long to sit through. However, you have to realize that the amount of time your three-year-old cousin spent on stage dancing was probably about 1 1/2 minutes. Each class of the dance school does a number (or two numbers, or three), but no one was up there dancing the entire 3 1/2 hours.
I think a lot of three-year-olds may not be ready for activities such as group sports, etc. However, I don't think three is too young to take dance classes, particularly if the child enjoys it.

I think you misunderstood them, I'm sure your cousin didn't dance for 3 hours. It was probably the end of the year recital for all the classes. The older the group the longer the dance and there were probably some solo pieces in the mix as well. And no, 3 is not too young for dance classes, she probably has a great time!

Honestly it is ridiculous to make a 3 yr. old to dance for 3 1/2 hours, but my 3 yr. old loves her dance classes. I don't however put her in dance recitals.

Well, I think it is important for children to try out all kinds of things at a young age like, dancing, sports or group socializing. But a 3 year old dancing on stage for 3 1/2 hours seems quite long. But it all depends on what kind of dance it is. If it is fun, lighthearted and not too rigid then I think it is okay. It is definitely wrong when parents try to live through their children, pushing them too hard, expecting perfection. If you see crying, withdrawl and sad faces, then for sure it is wrong. Kids need to play and be kids especially at 3 years old.

Yes that is way to long. Thats terrible to put the kids through that. Couldnt they have broken it up into 2 nights and made them shorter?
