My version of XP, according to Microsoft, is not legal. I will be locked out in thirty days unless I buy a licence for my OS to be legal. I was just wondering, How much does this licence cost?

The MS online electronic validation key is $99 for XP Home and $149 for XP Pro, both with SP2. You can usually find legal versions (recommend full install rather than upgrade) for less at: www.edirectsoftware.com

You can do a repair with the full install Cd and enter the new 25 digit Product Key. That will give you a legal version as well as repair any missing or corrupt files. You will have to go into the MS Updates to reinstall any patches or hot fixes. The repair takes about 1 hr, and the reinstalls of fixes/patches about another 30 minutes.

It depends where you buy it. I have seen some licences as low as $150 or as high as $400. It really depends if you have windows XP home edition, media center edition, or pro edition.
