Some of the newer camcorders actually have a DVD burner in them. They use the DVD disc itself to write to directly. When you are done recording your movie you can simply finalize the disk using the camcorder and then move the disc directly to your DVD drive to watch it.

I've heard that it works really well if you don't have intentions of editing the Disk. Then it can be kind of a pain.

I have a Hitachi DVD-Cam and when filming is complete it is downloaded and edited on the PC and then burned onto DVD disc.

Another advantage relating to the disc enables 1,000 sstill photographs per side. The pictures are easily downloaded.

Don't get it. They hardley record any video on one disc, dont go with the "MiniDV" either, It's just a tape....Go for one with a hard drive. You can transfer to your comp and edit/email/burn from there. :)

Hope this Helps!
