Both seem to be pretty hit or miss jobs. A very succussful archaeologist or cartoon creator can get paid alot... but I think that the average archaeologist and cartoon creator aren't as well off as one might hope.

The top archaeologists get paid a lot but it takes years to get to the level were you are paid for your Knowledge, until then its poor pay for most of them.
Cartoonists need time on little or no money until they have a cartoon that can be sold, Like actors there are lots of out of work cartoonists, but when you get a hit the wages take off.

If you go for field archaeology outside London that's about £12000 a year (unless the pay's gone up since I did my degree), you get more if you're a specialist or if you lecture etc. I'd imagine a cartoon creator, if successful, would get considerably more, especially if they owned the rights to the cartoon. This is assuming the cartoon is successful and sells.

It would depend upon what your able to dig up, and /or the success / following of the character you create, for the cartoon enthusiasts, in today's society. Two very different endeavors.
