I went through the same thing. I was diagnoised in Oct of 2005. A poor work evaluation is what got me to consider this. I have been taking meds since Oct and have seen much improvement in what I don't lose and or forget. I went off the meds for about two weeks, I could tell a difference and so did my husband. My personality did not change. I don't feel different, It doesn't feel like I am either. I don't get a body high from it like some meds do. In the begging i did notice some body high but that went away in a day or two!

If you have six or more symptoms at least during the last six months, then you have ADD.
1) Often fails to give close attention to details or makes careless mistakes in schoolwork, work or other activities.
2) Often does not seem to listen when spoken to directly.
3) Often loses things neccesary for tasks or activities.
4) Is often forgetful in daily activities.
5) Is often "on the go" or often acts as if "driven by a motor", often talks excessively.
6) Often blurts out answers before questions have been completed.

There are three subtypes of ADD:
1) Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
2) Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Predominantly Inattentive Type.
3) Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Type.

Ask yourself as you already did. Do I have trouble concentrating on one subject for less than a minute. If you answered yes to this question, you probably are ADD.

my son is ADHD and the meds help him big-time...sounds to me you could be ADHD if you've always been the way that you've described...but if symptons are new...stress can also make it difficult to focus...his personality didn't change....he just becomes more focused...I wouldn't be scared about meds....they are much better than they use to be...if you don't like one med you could try another...Good Luck!!

ADD is not a memory thing, it's more like daydreaming. You mind wanders, but doesn't care to sit on one thing. You should be able to remember it, but your mind doesn't care to focus on it.
