Eternity means for all time (which is much greater than 10,000 years). Infinity is a mathematical concept of a number that is so great it could never be counted.

Your husband is mistaken (no offense). Eternity is timelessness. Eternity is where the physical restraints of time-space do not exist. Infinity is time without end, which science has proven to not be the case. The universe is winding down and will eventually cease.
There exists 10 dimensions* that our math has proposed. 4 of which we dwell in presently and where infinity is tied. Eternity touches all 10 and we have no concept of what that entails. One of these, or another dimension is called "outer darkness" that is called Gehenna or Hell. This is a dimension where there is not a shred of God's light or love. Infinity might apply there.
*(Some physicists believe that there may be as many as 26 dimensions.4 Ten and twenty-six emerge from the mathematics associated with superstring theory, a current candidate in the pursuit of a theory to totally integrate all known forces in the universe.)

Infinity is mathematical concept of endlessness. It is also describes things which we cannot measure. Eternity is the endlessness of time. Eternity becomes finite if time comes to a halt and ceases at some point, however, this would be impossible for us to measure because we exist within its boundaries.
Your husband is referring to the phrase "lasted an eternity," but it is really just figurative speech referring to something that seems like it did, does, or will last for an infinite amount of time.

Websters dictionary says for etenity "continuance with no end" "infinite time." A person is 2 things. First he has a body and mind that is temporary. Then he has a soul that is eternal. See below site about more on this.

These are both concepts of time and space. They are, in a sense, one and the same. Eternity is a measure of time, whereas infinity is a measure of space.

VERY GOOD!!!! eternity is-----i.e. I AM
when I AM Creates something, it could exist FOR-EVER(a length of our time)
INFINITY is a bunch of FOR-EVER's end to end-------unless I AM ceases it to exist.
ETERNAL is in the Kingdom of GOD
INFINITY is in the Physical REALM

Why question time? Steven Hawkings made the best statement about time as this: "Why worry about time? Time is linear and will exist both forward and in reverse".
