I think religion. In Christianity you can get people to give you one tenth of their income plus more by pointing out some old pages from Malachi and threatening them with hellfire. In Islam, the going rate is 2 and a half percent plus whatever else you can give. In Hinduism there is a going rate and I would imagine it is enough to keep the priests in good health. With politics you can be voted out of office. With religion you are always in office.

The best business is one in which you can comfortably be yourself and make a comfortable living. I would go with some sort of service industry that will always be around and will not be legislated out of existence. Food, for example, will probably never be illegal. Prostitution being the oldest profession is nonsense. Same with religion. Hunting and gathering had to exist prior to that, otherwise there would be nothing with which to "purchase" such "services."

On the other hand, an even greater business might be owning something that better meets your own needs. Imagine owning your own dating site! You could have access to all the things each person said and find out what really works!

Or maybe you like high risk jobs? The illegal drug industry is probably always hiring to replace the people killed or arrested on the job.

Or maybe you like to make money off of the ill fortune of others: Pharmeceuticals or Weapons!

There are all sorts of opportunities out there if you have enough starting capital and business saavy!

As far as growth and sustainability, no business has been around longer and become bigger than Religion in the wholesale industry.

In the retail sector, it's always been Prostitution hands down and flat on the back. And in the manufacturing field, idol-making edges out candle-making by a nose and a prayer.

Politics and Government may be leaders in the economic front but term limits have managed to prevent dynasties. Still, incumbent leaders, tyrants and despots have the "Red Button" option of waging wars during their terms and/or dictatorships.

Monarchies were popular back in the day for many centuries but now they're as rare and extinct as pterodactyls and dinosaurs as people have moved on from oral tradition to reading and writing.

And now comes the fulfillment of the Knowledge industry and the vast expanse of the Travel industry that allows people to go to and fro... Daniel was right after all.

LOL.

Why work for a living be a politician or a preacher of religion.
Or if you want to work go where a war is and become an undertaker or window glazier you will soon get rich.
To be rich and not work join the UN they will not stop a war until they have another to go to.

Religion by far----it has more power over people --humans are afraid of the unknown and religious leaders take advantage of that to manipulate ignorant people---and think about it it's been around longer ----soooo the button line is that religious leaders are better politicians because they chose the right path one that shows them the light --to misguide people!!!! a perfect example is Iraq the people ignore the politicians and listen more to their spiritual leaders --see in a world of the blind the man with one eye is the king!!!

I suppose it would depend upon what my motivation was, am I looking for material gain, am I trying to ease my mind, am I trying to make the world a better place, etc… For me this answer is very simple, I like to bake and so this is the best business for me to get into because it is what I know and what I do best (so I am told by many smiling people who frequent my store). What I don’t sell I give to those less fortunate than I, because I stand a chance to do more than fill their bellies for one day, I bring them hope. This is because they know me and they know I care, and this in turn fills me with the greatest the greatest treasures one can have, completeness, fulfillment and love.

I believe Religion is the better business. Even Politics dips their hands into it to try to get money from those who support certain religious ideas.

Information. It is the most coveted thing in the world. People are always willing to do what it takes to get it. Lie, steal, kill, you name it, they're willing to do it. It is the most valuable resource on the planet right now. It's abundant, but at the same time, we want more of it.
