It upsets me too. I can't believe how many people on here do this to their children. They all are uneducated people when they use this form of discipline. It is a lazy, wimpy, ineffective way to parent. I found a great site that they should read, hopefully it will change their views. I feel sorry for their children. I agree with you.

No I think it is perfectly acceptable for that. It is all the leftist liberal douche bags that are making this into a ***** nation(I am from the US). You wonder why kids are getting worse and worse, well look at the parenting. By no stretch of the imagination am I uneducated, but I firmly believe in corporal punishment. It should be brought back into schools, and should not be frowned upon. I was spanked as a child, and there is nothing wrong with me.
Another problem with kids today is that they are taught that their opinion matters, when it means nothing, until they come of age.
danskecat- I can promise you I am FAR from uneducated, as a matter of fact I would say I am well within the top 5% of IQ's on Answers.

I think when it's done properly, the anticipation is worse than the actualy hit. You shouldn't go round smacking your kids, but administering corporal punishment properly can be pretty effective, esp when you have more than one kid. It's just one way to show your kids that what they did was a big deal. You should always make the punishment into a big deal, as well. That doesn't mean you hit them hard, just make them squirm for a bit. When they are old enough to realize that it just doesn't hurt as much as you have been making them believe.. then it's time to find a new punishment. It's not for everybody, but I don't think it's necessarily evil when done thoughtfully. It's pretty difficult to find something a 3-year-old responds as strongly to as fear.
Obviously, it's wrong to smack a child on the head.

I think they do it because techniques like timeouts and taking away toys take patience and spanking is easier in the short term.
It scares me as well for a number of reasons.
- It teaches children that using violence is an acceptable means of solving problems.
- When the parent is upset and frustrated there is a fine line betweeen well intentioned spanking and actually hurting the child.
- The child learns to fear and resent their parent, rather than trust them.

true,it could be they are acting on the way the were raised or not educated.
we never spanked our daughter til she turned 3(in March). just reason w/ your child, there's no need to hit. this teaches the child to strike back or hit other children at play time. I hate that !!

if i had kids i would never hit them. its not even funny to joke about..
honestly, whoever hits children has something wrong with them. maybe they were hit as a child? i dont know. but hurting a child is not the answer.
alternative forms of punishment are more suitable. in a lot of places, if you hit your kid, let alone spank them, you could be arrested. and thats exactly what people like them deserve :)

when i was younger I had gotten "whoopings". When I did something wrong and I didnt get a whooping it seemed like I was getting away with the matter and I would continue to do it. A child gettting hit in the mouth is definitely abuse. But a whooping on their butt not hitting their face is necessary. I have younger cousins who do not receive whoopings and comparing them to my brothers and I, they are not very respectful to their parents and elders. So whoop on..just dont beat them.

Not everyone is fit to be a parent, especially not someone who actually likes to be physically abusive. As the saying goes "Having children makes you no more parents, than having a piano makes you a pianist"

i was raised to hit and it would be over my dead body someone hit my kids. I feel that hitting just teaches it is ok to hit people. My husband and i have 2 kids 2 and 4 and neither of them have ever been hit and they are not bad kids! THEY ARE KIDS. So my question to all those people who hit there kids is " if u do something wrong at work should your boss hit u?"
