Students should be allowed to carry a cellular phone with them during school hours. To prevent disruption of class the phones should always be off. They should not use the phone unless they are on break or it is an emergency. Not a "Oh my goodness, my hair is a mess" emergency, but a true emergency. We have school violence and natural disasters, things that happen not on the average day, but a parent or guardian does feel more at ease believing that if they can find their child or reassure them. So I say allow cell phones, but be responsible. Don't disrupt the class.

I don't think cell phones should be allowed in school. It's a constant distraction during class. In my school, a cell phone rings about two times each period. When the person's desk is touching mine and their cell goes off, I feel the vibration. It's just annoying, especially during tests. Friends can talk to each other before or after class, during passing time, and during lunch. If students have transportation issues they can use the teacher's phone, or one in the office. Apparently, people ignore the rule of turning off cell phones during class. It's not very well enforced either.

As a future teacher I would say yes but with enforced rules. The students can have the phone for emergencies but can not be taken out during class, in the hallways, used during school hours(unless there is an emergency) etc. With todays society I feel that a cell phone in necessary in a school because you never know when something is going to happen.

Absolutely. I know that it was absolutely necessary for me in high school because I couldn't drive. How else was I supposed to let my mother know that I needed a ride home because I had a club after school and my schedule changed without notice? After I got my license, I felt way more secure that I had the ability to call my parents if I ever got into a situation where I needed their help.
I do believe that cell phones should be off or on silent (vibrator doesn't count) during class. They can be disruptive during class. It's also kind of rude.

yes......but students shouldn't abuse the "rule".....cell phones should be allowed to school, but may not be used in school building or turned on. If they became a disturbance, administrators would be able to take them a way, and returned later. It is smart to let a student carry a cell phone to school in case of an emergency or a need to phone a parent/ guardian.

yes because sometimes an emergency could happen and you need to make a phone call. Plus it is easier for your parents and friends to reach you.

the phones should be on vibrating only. so that it don't distrub anyone else in the classroom
