I went to the optician today and I need to get glasses, but I hope to mainly use contact lenses. I've ordered some glasses for now, and to have as a stand by, but I'm planning to sort out contact lenses sometime in the next couple of weeks.

Obviously, there are loads of different kinds, and I don't know anything about them! I'm interested in the 30 day ones, where you put them in and just leave them for a month, sleep in them and everything. Has anyone used these, and are they good? What are the best type of lenses in your opinion? I'm with specsavers opticians by the way.

Acuview II? Spelling
Very high water content, very comfortable.

Buy the 30 day ones but don't wear them that long. I think it caused long term dry eyes in my case. (2 weeks max)
when you wear them that long it reduces your tear and blink rate.

Can be bought without a prescription from Canada.

For most people silcone hydrogel lenses would be the best as they have a high Dk ( this allows the cornea to breath better than normal soft lenses, which means they are healthier and can be worn for longer ) and also do not dry out as quickly as normal soft lenses ( this gives better comfort throughout the day ). They comes in 2 versions, these are daily wear fortnightly/monthly which you take out and clean each night ( Acuvue Advance or 02 Otix ) and the extended wear type ( Purevision and Ciba Night and Day ) which you sleep in for up to a month. The main problem with the extended wear type is the increased risk of irritations of the cornea such a sterile keratitis. The best thing is to speak to your optician and specsavers do free trials on most lenses.

Continuous wear contact lenses - I've used them, but i had to stop because the contact lense is quite thick. Also, i have a slight stigmatism which made them a tad more uncomfortable.
They're good if you have difficulty in putting in contact lenses, but you must make sure that you pay attention to what your eye is telling you.
The trouble with these contact lenses is that if you get an infection in your eye, then your eye cannot repair itself, because the infection grows underneath the lense, and obviously if you're not taking them out, then your eye has to chance of repair.

So, get them if you have problems putting lenses in, but i would go with the monthly ones (the ones i use now) as they are safer and a hell of a lot more comfortable.
And cheaper, too.

Everyones eyes differ, so you just have to try different ones (get a trial with Specsavers) and find which one suits your eye best

Honey I have been wearing contacts for aboiut 20 years and I hate every kind I have ever worn! But I have to deal with it and I wear Accuvue and I am supposes to throw them away every 30 days and wear new ones. I usually go about 3 months or longer. They are the best that I have worn. I am planning getting the laser surgery soon! I can't stand contacts and glasses any more! Good Luck!
