The word "generator" is a generic name for a rotating machine which converts mechanical energy into electrical energy.
There are two types.
One type of generator is a dynamo, which produces d.c.
The other type of generator is an alternator, which produces a.c.

Dynamo is the term used principally in the UK for what we yanks call a generator. Same item, different name. I believe dynamo was originally used in the Americas but 'generator' has largely replaced it......

Dynamo is used in bicycle etc..
It is ac generator (sure). Generator also ac but dynamo for very small voltage nearly 10 to 15v ac. Generator for high voltages....
