Is there a reason why they shouldn't? Take some tribe in Africa ( Yea I know, cliche all over it ) and they had no idea of what a god would be. They are perfectly happy and could care less about it.

I live my life without a god type system. I love my wife, love my children. I am joyous when good things happen, sad when bad things happen. I get along just as well as anyone else and don't feel any different than anyone else. The only difference is when Sunday morning comes around I go fishing, or out to breakfast instead of going to church.

I own my own company, have the respect of my neighbors and live a happy content life. I can't imagine someone considering me as not living a honest life.

I really don't understand why the believers think they have the answer to how people should live their life.

do you mean to say that all those who believe in God are honest? Cant you for yourself that most of those who are dishonest are believers? What about Bush? Is he honest? or for that matter was he ever honest in his life? There is no connection between being honest and believing in god, but when you try to find an answer for yourself, you will be surprised to realise that the percentage of honest men is more among non-believers than belivers. Simply because non-belivers have no one to forgive them. While believers can always expect to be forgiven, to get ready to commit another sin.

If you only count that you life begins and ends here on earth...sure you can have an honest life. The question should be can you have an "eteranlly" honest life without God; and, the answer to that is NO.

Not really...God gives you the power to live an honest life. And nobody can have an honest life because we are all sinners. The difference is, is that Christians can ask forgiveness and actually regret what they did. Non-believers may ask God for forgiveness but never really mean it. To live a purposeful life you have to ask God to come into your heart. You have to hand your life over to Him.

This is the best question I came across.
Good, my friend, this shows you are using your brain.
Why do you worry about the unseen things?
Stop thinking about God, start leading honest life.
honesty?
Honest people will suffer in the hands of God.
dishonest people thrive in the name of God.
One thing is for sure.
You can lead an honest life without believing God! 100%.
If you are honest you are God.
If you are dishonest you are Demon.

Good question. I don't think I do, but I am afraid not to. This is stupid, don't you think. If there is a God, does he want us to be afraid? I think you can definatley live an honest life without God. The notion is there to keep society in place. Think of all the cultures with Gods, are they realistic? No.

Morals/ethics are determined by environment, not religion.

It appears the majority of people who believe in God can't live an honest life..

Of course! God isn't honesty, he's just a thing some people like to follow and use as a guide. But honesty is something human, a runoff of the natural guilt we feel when we deceive someone. It's important to believe in something in life, it doesn't have to be god, it could be honesty if you want.

Yes, i think so. I don't know what to believe anymore, but I'm doing a pretty good job being a good person. I do over 200 hours of community service a year as well as maintain a 3.8 GPA in college. You can't judge the value of someone's life on their beliefs (or lack thereof). Plus the mob and the mafia are highly religious and look what they do. There's plenty of religious criminals just like there's plenty on non-criminal atheists.

Yes! People who have no faith in a God still learn about honesty, right and wrong from their families growing up, and from living in society. I don't believe in God, but I don't lie because I know from my parents and from living in this world that lying hurts people and only causes trouble for the liar. I also don't steal because I know I have no right to take from others what is theirs. People who don't believe in God can have very honest lives, because they have to live in society and follow societies social mores as (well as written laws!)
