An abbey is a church yes, through history, an many observations catholic churches came to be called abbeys. The word abbey was originally slang. This word came to be originally as a word for prostitutes, because for a time this profession was recognized as being legal. During this time a common middle class girls name was abbey, so most whores became known as abbeys. Ever since its conception, the catholic church was well known for being the largest supplier of customers for the abbeys. that is where the name came from. And I as a good catholic boy am offended and appalled by this accusation, when the only real records of these types of actions is with the millions of alter boys being molested. No self respecting catholic figure would ever have sexual relations with a woman.
