Your Pastor probably works very hard and very long hours to support you and the rest of the congregation. Pastors often end up working 6 or 7 days a week, including into the evenings, as well as being "on call" for parish emergencies.

So to gather some money to give you pastor as a present so that they and their family can go on holiday sounds like a pretty good idea!

Although you might want to ask why this requires a special collection, and shouldn't your church look instead at how much your pastor gets paid, and consider a pay rise to reflect the work that they do, so they need not be reliant on this "extra" giving to afford the holiday.

Hi,

You decide what is wrong or not......Your pastor may need a holiday but cannot afford it....and out of goodwill the community can collect some money....but on the other side...the pastor maybe get a good salary and misuse his "powers" to collect money....

Well You decide

Doesn't the church pay the pastor? I don't know who makes the rules in your church. In ours we have a session of congregation members that make the decisions, then there is a congretional meeting to approve those decisions. If this decision was reached through congregational approval, I'd say it's OK. If it is just the pastor in charge of the church and it was just the pastor's decision, I'd find another church.

Pastors and ministers, and other clergy should not be paid by the church. Church duties should be voluntary, church leaders should get jobs like everyone else.

But if they are getting paid, then it must be treated as a job, so I guess if you think you deserve to go on holiday from your job, then why not them? If that is the only source of their income, then how else are they going to pay for it???

what are you going to do with these yes and nos, you may reap confussion here. Whats the brethren saying, are you all agreed and you are the only one saying no, then you will take answers from yahoo and tell them the response is a yes or no.
I hope you are taking up the call to pray for leaders so that even their decisions will be Godly and thus will not work to confuse and divide the flock. Pray my dear and even more.

are there people in your church who are barely getting by? Are there people who have lost their jobs and cannot afford to put food on the table? Are there people in the congregation suffering because they don't have the money to seek medical care?

Do you think it is right to be gathering money for anyone to go on vacation when there are people in need in the church?

Why not?

How is that any different than any of the other money people waste supporting con artists and liars?

I agree with Fornido (above), preachers shouldn't be paid at all; they should support themselves.

Preachers violate the 3rd commandment every time they open their mouths to preach.

I'd question it depending on if it's some kind of outreach program or if it's a sit on the beach and relax sort of deal.
