She has a great deal of loose skin under her stomach. She is just over a year old and was spayed very young (about 4 months). She has been very healthy and is a great cat, I'm just a little concerned about this loose skin. Is is possibly because she has been spayed? Any help would be appreciated.

We haven't actually taken her to a vet yet (her foster mother took her the same day we picked her up, so we weren't planning to take her back until September). I'm not overly concerned about it, just curious as to possible causes.

That is completely normal. When a cat is spayed all of her reproductive organs are removed, including the ovaries and the uterus. The extra skin in the abdomen area does not mean she is fat or unhealthy. It is just extra skin; nothing to be concerned about. All cats have that...even males.

I believe it was just because she was fixed. My cat has that too & even though she had gained weight prior to being fixed she did not have the flabby skin until after the operation.
She has put on even more weight since. Even though she is a small cat she weighs 14 pounds. The vet said that she could stand to lose a pound or two, but that she was all right. She is still a very active cat.

Most cats that are spayed especially female cats will have this hanging skin. My cat has it and she is very healthy at 13 years old.

That happens to female cats after they are spayed. Her estrogen producing glands have been removed and the residual testosterone is having an effect. Feed her and scratch her ears. She'll be fine.

Call your vet and ask what it might be. They can be a lot of help!
