Ok the thing is I have four kittens that don't have a mother( other than me). I had five, but my puppy killed it, and ran away, because we had to hit her to get the new born kitten out her mouth. The kittens are older now, but there not afraid of dogs, I know this because a stray came to our yard and the kittens were all under it's feet. I'm scared that if I get another dog it might kill my kittens and i couldn't live without my kittys. What do you think I should do?

For those who were wondering my kittens live outside ( against my will ) and I did not hit my dog my dad did. I chased the dog for a long time and it was to fast for me the catch. So when my dad came outside because I was screaming he finally just threw a rock at the dog so it would drop the kitten. I don't want anyone to think I mean to animals. I hate hurting any animals.

I would advise against getting another dog. You have your cats and they can keep you company. Dogs and cats can get along but it sounds to me that you have your hands full enough with just the four kitty's. I do not believe that dogs should be kept outside either. If you are going to have a pet then it should live in the house with you and not be banished to live out in the weather.

Personally I would hold off from getting a dog or puppy for a little while. Perhaps if you waited a few months and waited until your kittens were old enough to fend for themselves. But unfortunately this doesn't always work either. Perhaps you should just stick to your kittens for now. I know I didn't really help you much, but I personally feel that it may be too risky to get a dog or puppy just yet. Are your kittens outside or inside? If the kittens are mainly indoors, then getting a puppy to stay outdoors would work or vica versa.
Good luck to you and your kittens! Pets make for wonderful companions for us lonely humans.

I know how you miss having a dog but wait for a while give the kittens time to grow.Be very selective about the dog you get as well goldens and labs are good with cats Rotti's are not,do some study on breds online. You could rescue an older dog used to cats, than you don't have the puppy training and messes,I have rescued 2 of my 3 and I wouldn't trade them for the world.By the way if you must hit the dog to rescue cat use a newspaper not your hand they will be nervous of hands and training will be impossible.

You should not ever hit your dog. Ever. That is cruel. This will only teach your dog to be afraid of you. When your kittens are old enough, you should find good homes for all of them but maybe one because I think that 4 kittens are too many for anybody.
Since you say you cannot live without those cats, find your sweet darling doggie a good new home. I don't think that you are a person who should have a dog.

You were irresponsible with the dog you had. You didn't stop it from killing a defenseless kitten and you didn't look for it when it ran away. Even though it did something wrong you are still responsible for whatever happens to that dog. Not only should you never own another dog, you should find the kittens new homes and never get another pet.

Dogs and Kittens can get alone. I think the most important thing is to socialize the animals often and always under your supervision.
I have a Parrot and 2 dogs and they get alone great together.
Of course if you start off with a puppy and they grow up together they won't know that they are different.
Good Luck

Wait until the kittens are a little bit older before getting a dog.

Go ahead and get a dog. Research the temperament of the breed and observe how the dog acts around the cats. If the dog does not like the cats, return it before you get attached to it and try again. Dogs have their personalities, also.

Why don't you just keep the kittens in the house and get a dog and keep him outside...

Get a laborador puppy. They are easy to train and good with other pets. I know this because my 11 yr old yellow lab is and was constantly "assaulted" by housebunnies,a cat,a bird, children and other assorted animals in my daughters "zoo" and she takes it all in a good natured manner.
