First there is no such religion as brahmanism. That term is given by Christian evangelicans who did not even understand basics of Hinduism. 90% times they twisted facts deliberately.

Hinduism is among the oldest of the world's faiths. It is a total way of life. It is a dharma or way of life evolved by the great sages and seers of ancient India. Its traditions extend back before recorded history. The early phase of the Vedic tradition in India is dated between 10,000 - 7,000 BCE. Yet, in spite of the fact that it first evolved more than 5,000 years ago, Hinduism (Sanatana Dharma) is also very much a living tradition. And as such, Hindus are arguably the most intensely religious people on the earth.

The first fundamental principle of Hindu Dharma is that "the Reality is one without a second." This reality is beyond description by human mind. Hence it is indicated by a single world, "Brahman". "Infinite, eternal, changeless existence is the All; from that All, All comes forth; to that All, all returns," that is what the Chandogya Upanishad (vi.2.1) tells us.

Hinduism is the only faith to have boldly and confidently proclaimed that "Truth is one, the wise call it by various names." (Rig Veda).

"In quality, in quantity, in significance for man's intellectual, cultural, and spiritual life, this literature in its totality is unsurpassed among all other literary traditions of the world."

"Hinduism is a process - for this reason, Hinduism must be studied not as a fixed body of doctrine, but as a developing tradition that has changed considerably throughout the centuries and which is still changing in a creative direction. Everything in India makes sense in the light of the changing process. Nothing makes sense without it. Hinduism is still a living, changing process and must be seen as such."

Number of gods:

Yes, said he, but just how many gods are there Yajnavalkya?" "Thirty three". "yes," said he, but just how many gods are there, Yajnavalkya?" "One."
- Brhadaranyaka Upanishad III, IX, I

For thousands of years India has been a veritable laboratory of religion: everything imaginable has been tried out, and nothing ever has completely been rejected. India remains a predominantly Hindu country. Its ethos has evolved down the ages through its the ancient Hindu traditions, customs, philosophy and culture. In spite of many attacks on Hinduism by varied invaders, in spite of rumors of decay and disarray, Hinduism has outlived all announcements of its impending demise.

"Today, there is an unfair bias in the contest of conversions because the two largest, best-financed and most widespread faiths—the "Jealous-God" religions of Christianity and Islam—got that way by conquest and persecution. The monopoly that Christianity has on the Americas, Australia, and much of sub-Saharan Africa and Europe is a strength for that faith—they can keep these areas free of competition with little effort while pouring their propaganda and "charity" into targeted regions where other religions struggle to emerge and recover from the impact of European colonialism and forced conversions. Islam’s dominance of the Middle East, Indonesia, and North Africa is a similar fortress."

Do you really want me to high light how church gets converts in India?

Conversion Tactics

These pages describe common tactics emplyed by missionaries to convert others to the Christian Faith.

Charitable Allurement

Deception, Lies & Deceit

Educational Indoctrination

Medical Care

Sexual Abuse

Violence

In January 2002, American Missionary Reverend Joseph Cooper and Pastor Sam Benson were expelled from India after the raping a young Hindu girl. Both currently walk free and Cooper is a preacher in Connecticut. Western Media only reported how Hindus had retaliated against Cooper but did not mention that he incited locals by saying Lord Krishna "spreads AIDS". American Pastor Benson Sam and his wife Sally also were found guilty of abduction and rape of a minor girl. The poor orphan girl named Laly had allegedly been sexually abused and harassed for four months at the Bible Christian Centre, which had resulted in the issue of non-bailable warrants against Sam Benson and his son.

I can cut n paste cases from all over the world about methods.

Hindus are tolerant and assimilative and paying for being linient in this age.
Quantity does not exactlly translate in to quality.

There are 30000000 gods in Hinduism....

people mostly convert , when they want money, ie. the Christians or Muslims say they will give food or protection when they do..

Hinduism is the mother of all religions...if u make a historical study you will understand that all the religion in the world is just
given by Hindus and by Jews..rest of the religions are derived from these two..

Hinduism is the most scientific religion and it has so many similarities with quantum physics..

many western scientists got their inspiration from Hinduism (Vedanta)..for their inventions,.for example.. Tesla, Erwin scrondinger..Robert Oppenheimer etc....

over 5000 yrs or more,.. there have always been so many invasions in india..2/3 rds of worlds riches were in India, and India was a very important trade route..

the British, the Greeks, the Arabs, the Romans, french, Persians ,everyone invaded India coz it was so rich...

India has been attacked by many religions and many countries..and it took lot of shocks from history , but still the foundations of Hinduism havent shaken a bit..

It is one of the oldest religions in the world , and it stood the test of time for thousands of years and I don't think there is any reason why it will be forgotten...

religions like Christianity and Islam are only about 1500 yrs old...
and Hinduism is about 7000 years old....

so its impossible that it will be gone...

Hinduism is the eternal religion of the soul, because it seeks to find the truth in the Self. So to say it is original is sort of true I suppose, but honestly, anyone from any faith can find the same truth by diminishing the selfish ego and tuning into the higher self. And this has been done by the mystics in ALL religions, not just Hinduism.

Hinduism proposes that there is only one God. But God is unknowable and yet, because of his grace, does make himself known to us in various ways. So, to the devotees, he makes himself manifested in many forms and with many names. This is what makes Hinduism so tolerant because it acknowledges that all the gods are one, and that we all are in essence worshipping only one God, even if we call him by different names.

Hinduism does not seek converts. But Islam and Christianity do. They spend literally billions of dollars on the effort to proselytize and convert non-Muslims and non-Christians to their religions. And they spend an inordinate amount on trying to convert Hindus. They will even spread lies and misunderstandings about Hinduism to do so.

But even though Hinduism does not actively seek converts, there ARE people choosing to convert to Hinduism totally on their own because of their own consciences. I think this speaks a lot for Hinduism. I am myself a convert, and have met many others online.

It would be a sad sad world in my opinion if Hinduism, Buddhism, and other world religions were lost and all we had left was the 2 religions who fight for each others' souls. Islam and Christianity are fine religions in their own ways, but they both have this downfall that they do not accept that God can save anyone outside of their religions. It would be sad to see religion boil down to that. I think it is refreshing that there are tolerant religions like Hinduism, which recognize that God is attainable by all.

Hinduism is the mother of all religions...there is nothing new in any religion which is not already in hinduism (actual name Sanatan Dharma)

The Bhakti yoga of hinduism which believes in a personal God and asks us to surrender to him and obey him.... is what exactly christianity and islam doing.

Yoga and meditation are the biggest gifts of Hinduism to humanity...millions of christians and muslims are practicing it. Last week dubai Government asked its drivers to attend Yoga classes to reduce stress and road rage !

Conversions, as written by Rian30 is a dirty trick of rich christian and muslim countries....and we dont mind if some idiots leave hinduism for sake for money!!

Hinduism has survived biggest natural disasters. for thousands of years......monstrous attacks by muslims and christians for about 1000 years... it will survive for ever !

The Truth does not need my and your approval....Truth remains the Truth... and the Truth of Humanity is Sanatan Dharma!!

After 100 years people will grow up... Atheism is fastest growing in massive populations since 1995... so at this rate, earth will be highly advanced as poor countries will also make significant progress and religion and false beliefs will die out as Zeus and Jesus...I guess it will be only Atheism.

From what I know, Hinduism is not an "Original" religion. It was an off-shoot of a different religion called Brahmism (check the spelling for me, I'm not sure if I spelled it correctly). Like Hinduism, it's polytheistic (believing in many Gods) and was prominent in South Asia. Historians are still studying where Brahmism was from, and I don't know much about it.

Oh, and Buddism was an off-shoot of Hinduims, with big differences. Buddism believes in Nirvana and reincarnation (like the Hindus), but believe in the "middle path" that the Budda set. I'm not Buddist or Hindu, so I don't know as much as I'd like. I'm actually Christian.

Hinduism is often described as way of life - but then there is a yawning gap between way of life and life.

u have alot of good answers but wat i have to say is that it is the only natural religion. there has not been any founder. HINDUISM DOES NOT GIVE U ANY RULES WHICH U HAVE TO FOLLOW IN ORDER TO GO TO HEAVAN, IT GIVES U THE PATH TO LIVE A SUCCESSFULL LIFE. HINDUISM WAS THE FIRST EVER RELIGION AND ITS THE ONLY RELIGION.
