Sure did, felt like a stupid. Lady next to me actually grabbed my hands in the middle of my clapping to stop me from looking like more of a moron, but the damage was already done.

They don't teach this stuff in school, just gotta grunt through an episode like this to learn!

At a 1980 rock concert for the group Heart, they did the song Barracuda, which has this great bass guitar opening. Now, if you play the song on your home stereo, it sounds great and all. But, when your in an enclosed stadium, with like the biggest professional speakers you've ever seen in your life, it's a totally spiritual thing to feel that bass guitar shaking your insides out. Everyone, who was relatively quiet to that point was up on there feet cheering after that incredible start to the song.

I know you're probably talking about classical music and all, but would this count?

I have applauded when the rest of the audience did, it was a 3 part piece by a classicla guitarist and we all clapped at the end of the first bit, and the guy performing asked us to wait till he had finished before applauding...oops!

I was in an orchestra that played at Carnegie Hall. We played Tchaikovsky 5 and people clapped after every single movement. It was quite amazing to me, the conductor just grinned, my standmate growled Shut the **** up. It's not like these are novice concert goers either, I don't know what happened.

I usually try to do my movements in less public places! Although I have been known to applaud myself afterwards! ( back when I was on the potty!)

Yes. At an open-air music festival there was a massive long queue for the toilets, because the organizers hadn't hired enough cubicles, and when we heard it, we were all pretty desperate, I admit, but we just had to give a standing ovation...

Are you kidding me? No! I think it's rather disruptive to the musicians because they're not really finished the piece.
