All of the above are correct. To go on holiday is a European term and is the same thing as an Americans vacation.
In America, holidays are determined by national, state and local governments. New Year's day, President's Day, (In February, we used to have Washington's Birthday and Lincoln's Birthday, but they were combined to make PD) Memorial Day (honoring our soldiers who died in the World Wars (I and II) Some are religious (Easter, Christmas), some for thankfulness, (Thanksgiving), some for celebrating our diversity, ( Martin Luther King Day) We have several other holidays. Some we get time off from work to celebrate, others we do not.
Vacation time in the USA is a block of time (1 week or more) that we take away from work. In most cases it is like a paid leave. You have to notify your boss, company of the time you are taking as vacation. Sometimes leave is denied and other arrangements have to be made.
This was not always the case. HTH

In the US, our vacation is either going away on a pleasure trip or just getting off of work for a certain number of days per year. Our holidays are religious or political celebrations on a certain day. I have heard other countries use "going on holiday" as a term for going on vacation.

Holidays are celebrations like Christmas or memorial day. A vacation is a time when you take a trip or take time off of work just because you have earned it or need it.

In my experiences with living in Canada and the U.S., Canadians are more likely to say "holidays" and Americans are more likely to say "vacation". They are used to mean basically the same thing, however. So, the difference is dialectal.
