YES,in some countries ,its normal, almost a culture to spit,it happens in the middle east and the predominant muslim parts of africa, its due to the dusty nature of the country, its normal for everyone, esp the men to have congested lungs.

Well its not that they love to spit. Its just normal for them.
Well it depends on how the culture has evolved, what is acceptable in a given society and what is looked down upon.
There are countries where men will urinate against a wall on a crowded street and no one will object. Same with littering and spitting.
It applies to clothes too. The indians (south asia) find the western mini skirts and low cut blouses to be well non -conservative, revealing , sexy etc. Whereas they are surprised when westerners call their sari (womens' wrap around) revealing and sexy as it displays the midriff, navel etc.
Some communities will not let you enter their house or maybe village if they come to know you are a non-vegetarian.

I think its gross to spit yet people still do it. I wished people would get fined if they spit on the ground. They should spit in a napkin or in a trash can. I don't want to step insomes saliva. eww. so its not good manners to spit in public.

I don't think so. My ex always did that, it's gross and impolite. Also this kid in college used to spit his tobacco stuff into a bottle during class. That was gross too. And very inappropriate.

yes, it's true....I've been to many countries.....Korea, Turkey, India, Malaysia to name a few....where spitting is common. I still can't get used to seeing it, and I would never do it myself, but to each his own, I guess. As someone else said, "When in Rome...."

perhaps in their country and culture, it's accepted. I still subscribe to the "when in Rome..." axiom~!
