Because sometimes I come to this site to be entertained and answer silly questions and sometimes I take on the deeper questions. Some (not me) would wonder why you chose this question instead of a serious question.

Because people's brains don't necessarily think seriously. We are all out to get the greatest laugh or to make the most out of a crappy situation and if that means asking a stupid question to see what kind of stupid answers you get, then that's what people are doing to muddle through this life.

Because some are simply seeking attention. Others are merely looking to stir up other people. Oh wait, that's attention-seeking behaviour, as well. Others are just up past their bedtimes. Oh wait, more attention-seeking behaviour... I think I sense a pattern! :)

I agree with you... I guess most people just want to see their names on T.V. But you are right... most of the questions are far from thought provoking.
