There are many ways to do this actually. You can get little attachments like splitters or channel selectors as well. But here's the easiest and simplest way to plug all three devices without having to purchase all that other stuff:

1. Plug one end of the Red-White-Yellow (RWY) cords into the OUT ports on your DVD player.

2. Plug the other end of the RWY cords into the IN ports on the back of your VCR.

3. Plug a Cable or another set of RWY cords (depending on how new or old your TV is) into the OUT port on the back of your VCR.

4. Plug the other end of the Cable or RWY cords into the IN ports on the back of your TV.

5. Now, on the VCR, there should be two buttons called Channel Up and Channel Down. Press the Channel up or down till you get to Line In 2. Line In 2 is usually the ports in the back, if not, then do Line 1 (Line 1 is usually the ports in the front of the VCR).

6. Now, leave it be. So now when you want to watch a DVD, it should play just fine and when you watch a VHS, it works just fine as well.

The brand names of the individual components/players shouldn't really matter or play a role in the compatibility of each device. The only benefits of having two devices of the same brand are that one controller can control both devices. For example, if you had a Sanyo TV and a sanyo DVD player, the DVD player controller can also control the TV. Hope this helped.

Are you making sure that you 1) have the TV on the correct channel to play DVDs or 2) that you're choosing the appropriate input? My television has multiple choices for input on the input menu from the remote; i.e. Video 1, Video 2, Comp 1, Comp 2, etc.

There are surely input connectors on your DVD player and/or VCR player. Connect one in the other, and the other in the TV set.

You will just have to select the "Input channel" from the one connected to your TV set to accept input from the TV company or VCR.

You can connect one player through the other, that way they are both hooked up.
