SCIENCE DIET is crap - its low quality food that PAID for vet endorsement , which inflates the price... its crap marketed as good food...
IAMS is crap - they used to be good, til bought out by Proctor and Gamble.. who put fillers in it, they also own Eukanuba which is slightly better crap

Purina, and Pedigree - also crap (FILLERS FILLERS FILLERS)

your Vet will NOT KNOW much about food.. they recieve very little (if any) education on nutrition and food ingredients - they generally will recommend any food that their particular office sells (usually Science Diet because that is how it is marketed)

YOU need to read ingredient lables yourself - the first ingredient should be CHICKEN MEAL or LAMB MEAL the second ingredient should be RICE

they food should NEVER have BHA, BHT, Soy, Wheat, Beef, Pork or by-products (which are beaks feet and feathers) you dont want to see "Meatmeal" which can be any animal that died that day

in Canada I like NUTRAM, in USA, Canidae, Wellness or even Nutro Natural Choice (but it isnt human grade meat)

rules of thumb : IF You see alot of commercials you know the food is CRAP because they are putting money into commercials NOT into ingredients
IF the food is sold in Grocery store or Wal Mart is is CRAP

I've had many puppies in the course of my life and I fed them Purina Puppy Chow for the first 6 months of their life. After that I gave them Purina Dog Chow. Any Purina products are healthy to give your pets. There are other things out there too that are a bit on the pricey side. If you still can't decide which to give your puppy. Ask your vet, he or she may recommend something for the overall health for your puppy. Good luck! May you have many pleasurable and happy moments with your puppy. Dogs and cats as well as other animals can become the best friends for us humans to enjoy!

Depends on the size puppy. the only brand i recommend it Nutro. Small puppies Nutro natural choice, for large breed puppies i reccomend Nutro natural choice controlled growth formula. All other brands are filled with by products, i wouldn't eat that stuff so i wont feed it to my dogs. Who'd eat a delicous boul of feet and beaks? I've also heard some less reputable companies buy dead animals from zoo, so an order of zebra would go down well dont you think?

oh for doggy treat you have got to check out trader Joes they have some great organic, preservitive free and animal by product free doggy cookies, even i think they look and smell good.

I'm owned by a Border Collie who gets really itchy skin. I tried all sorts of puppy chows for her without any luck. My vet finally recommended Purina ONE Puppy Chow. The ONE line is still the only one that she tolerates and she's now 4 years old. Good luck!

is it a small dog or a large breed? a high quality puppy food. i have used iams , science diet, euk, nutro, innova. they are all good. if you have a large breed dog, make sure you buy a puppy food for large breeds, the calcium is made in it so that large breed dogs dont grow to fast. its not good for their bones to grow to fast. you can purchase a good food at a petsupermarket or your vet. its worth it, because the way that they process the food is different than store brands, so that the animals use more of the nutrients and poop it less. a lot of store brands have a lot of fillers.

Any kind of premium food such as Eukanuba, Nutro Max, Natural choice, or Science Diet that is formulated for the kind of dog you have (small breed, meduim breed, or large breed). Depending on what type of dog you have, he/she needs to be on puppy food for a year (two years if it is a large breed). You can also ask your vet for a reccomendation.
