Depression can lead to other things that can kill you. Aside from suicide itself, depressed people tend to have eating disorders- either too much or too little (each bringing with it its own set of problems) and sleeping disorders- either too much or too little (again each with its own set of problems). Depressed people turn to drugs and alcohol to cover the pain- again we know the problems these carry with them. Depression can take over your life making you dead inside long before a physical death comes to you.

The diagnosis of depression does not kill you. Of course there are various forms of depression and all are very different with different symptoms. If not treated, the side effects of depression can be manifested in physical problems that may lead to fatality. Suicide does not always occur with depression and many times occurs once the individual is actually beginning to get better. A person can become so depressed that they cannot even conceive suicide as a way to overcome their problems.

Well yes, depression can kill you! You feel so down that you dont think you deserve to live and then you try and kill yourself! I think you should talk to an adult or at least a doctor. So, they can prescribe you some medicine and help you get better. They even have some places that can help you get over your depression. My sister had been depressed for awhile, we did everything we could to help! Now, she is alot better and off her meds! Good luck to you

Depression can lead to chemical imbalances in severe cases, leading to all sorts of nasty things, like dysfunctions of the brain, heart and other organs. Besides, ever heard of dying from a broken heart ?

only if it possesses you... if it sets inside your body.. in that case it becomes a disease, a cancer which cannot be cured. (that is the most extreme case).

i have been through some phases of depression in life.. but thankfully none of them was prolonged (the longest being 2 months)..
i am glad i came out of it..

and yes. proper counselling and care can help anyone come out of it... its just that individual should discuss it because sometimes the burden of handling a situation alone is too much..

Not directly, but for some people depression leads to suicide. Also, when you are depressed, it affects your body's ability to fight disease. Someone with a serious illness who is also depressed is less likely to recover than somone with a more hopeful attitude.

yes, it can kill you. it can drive you to kill yourself. i have tried to kill myself twice and threatened it countless numbers of times. i take meds. i go off my meds. on meds. off meds. it's a vicious cycle. it helped me when i started thinking of all of the reason's that i should stick around and suffer with the pains of life. i can't say i won't ever think it or do it again. i hope i won't... but life is so very depressing... we all need help from time to time... some of us more than others. GOOD LUCK TO YOU! talk to a doctor if you think you may be depressed GET HELP and stay on your meds.... (i'm being a hypocrit... i know)
