there is such a thing as a genetic predisposition to mental illness. Most of the time, genetics is the gun, environment is the trigger. Personal experience is the bullet.

Science has not definitely proven a genetic relationship but they do believe that family history does play a role in developing the illness.

Scottish scientists say they've identified two genes that contribute to the development of schizophrenia.
David Porteous and his team at the Medical Research Council Human Genetics Unit in Edinburgh discovered the genes after 30 years of studying a Scottish family that has been plagued by schizophrenia and other mental illnesses. The results of their study were published this month in the journal Human Molecular Genetics.

My sister has it , she's the oldest of 7 siblings. There was a relative 3 generations back that had something wrong, it was kept hushed up, so we're not sure if it was schizoprenia, but on my Father's side there is Parkinson's. (he had it, his sister, his aunt had it).
My brother's boy has Autisim, so with all these diseases that are brain related it really makes you wonder.
Now my sister did have alergy testing and she is alergic to many things. She won't follow the dr.s. advice on staying away from the various food items. She has had it from around 24 yrs. old and she is now 60. She has to stay on medication.
So out of 7 children only one has the disease and out of 14 grandchildren only one has autisim (the youngest of grandchildren is now 10 and oldest is 32.
I do alot of reading about alternative medicine and one thing that I've read and that is that they feel there is a corralation with wheat alergies and schizoprenia - which I find interesting because of my sisters diagnosis with alergies, although I don't know if wheat was one of them.

It is a gene that is passed down and also is more apt to become apparent where there is some type of abuse assist the manifestation of the gene. This is very common where there has been prominent physical abuse as a predecessor. People don't like to admit this, but it's true in almost ever case.

Schizophrenia they say is genetic. But in my Brothers case i thought it was more spiritual in nature. My BROTHER was totally normal. HE went to church and later rejected G0d and church. He wanted nothing more to do with G0d or church.MY Personal observation is demon possession. Not a disease, and should seek a educated minister, for this type of spiritual problem.

They think that is can be.
I am not sure if they know for sure. But they see more than one person with it in familys. So it is possible that is could be inhereted.

Yes it could, but it is recessive, so it's not extremely likely. However it does happen, my pysch professor told us it is hereditary, but chances are still small.
