Why does this group of people come up to me and act all friendly and want to be my friend and then invite me to hang out somewhere which ends up being their church? Why do they try and deceive people?

Because thruthfulness is obscure to them. If they dont convert enough people they go to hell, and then their wives will burn in the lake of fire because they werent there to call them up... or something like that.

maybe thats mormons.

I dont know, i dont answer the door when they knock. Or if i do, i open it wide and let brutus our great dane greet them. He's usually bigger than most of them, so the fights pretty one sided. He's actually getting sort of thin, since they never come around anymore, i think he ate the last of them.

JW's have a heirarchy which they move through by witnessing to people. It is the goal of the men in particular to move through this heirarchy in order to be seen as "more spiritual". Kinda like the business world. The more people they get to come to the church, the better a person they are considered to be. An excellent resource for JW information and other cults is Walter Martin's "Kingdom of the Cults".
If you are in America, that is their right, no one can really stop them. You can tell them that it's not appreciated, or igore them, or be like me and preach back Christian beliefs.

A note on Answerman's statement, while sharing the Gospel of Christ is a fundamental principle of of Christianity, JWs should not be confused as being Christians. The gospel they preach is not the same one that Christians preach. They may seem similar at a glance, but they are different in many ways. The book I list in my resource is a good resource for learning the differences between the two as well. (Also, JWs wouldn't appreciate being called Christians)

Jehovah's Witnesses do not deceive anyone. They do try to talk with their neighbors about the bible. Why do that?

The Scriptures indicate that Jesus personally instructed his disciples to go door-to-door. Although they are a relatively small religion, Jehovah's Witnesses clearly embody the most prominent global fulfillment of that Christian assignment. Frankly, you can call yourself a Christian all day long, but if you disregard the door-to-door preaching work, who are you really disregarding?

(Luke 10:1-17) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest. 3 Go forth. Look! I am sending you forth as lambs in among wolves. ...16 “He that listens to you listens to me too. And he that disregards you disregards me too. Moreover, he that disregards me disregards also him that sent me forth.”

The evidence is clear that Jehovah's Witnesses are performing Christ's work and thus they are, in fact, the only true Christians today.

A fundamental belief of all Christianity (maybe some other religions, too, I'm not sure...) is to tell others about Jesus. In this way, Jehovah's Witnesses are the same as others. Their approach may differ, but aside from that, that is the belief of all Christians.

Jehovah's Witnesses preach to everyone you are not ruled out as the only one. J.W.'s are friendly and the most honest people you will ever meet which is very rare in today's world J.W.'s don't deceive people to hang out at their church which by the way is called the Kingdom Hall. It is part of J.W.'s act of worship to God to preach to people and teach them about Him and his Son's teaching's.

Jesus last words on earth at Matt 28:19,20 helps explain why we go door to door or talk to people where ever we meet them. At least you said we act friendly. At least we don't fly airplanes into buildings, all we do is try to talk to people. We have helped protect free speech in many countries around the world, because many(The US for one) have tried to stop our work, but we have argued this to supreme courts around the world and even the world courts. Some of these laws in the US we fought against would have made it illegal for girl scouts to sell their cookies or even knock on your neighbors door and ask for a cup of sugar. I don't know if your a christian or not, but it is so easy to show from the bible that we are doing what Jesus did and said to do.

By the way godsnite was way off.

The thing about Jehovah's Witnesses is they're exactly as sincere as they seem - they really do want to be your friend; that's their reason for giving you what they feel is the incredible gift of their good news, their faith. I once asked a witness about this, and they said "If you went into your favourite store and they were having an amazing sale, you'd want to share the news, wouldn't you? Same with faith". They're so hopped up on happiness, they can't necessarily see that you wouldn't be as happy if you knew their truth. They're absolutely too polite to be any real inconvenience, and if you don't want to talk to them about the things that matter to them, a quick "I'm sorry, can't talk, I'm off to an orgy of lust and violence" will usually do the trick.

We don't deceive anyone. It's very clear what the point is. JW are very friendly and they knock on your door so you can get the approperiate knowledge about the Bible. JW don't force you to go anywhere, they ENCOURAGE you to go. There's no obligation, nothing. And that's not a church, it's a Kingdom Hall.

because they can. so they will.
they are being genuine. they truly wanna hang out and tell u about God. they just have a really bad way of going about it.

im a Christian, and i almost shake my head when i see them door knocking. i feel like, every person that slams the door in there face has just chosen to harden there hearts a little more to the thought of a loving and very real God, all because of a bad method.

they mean well, but they don't do so well.

Patience with them dear, they HAVE to....

One of the requirements as a member is the "door to door" excursion for a time period( not sure how long). Mormons have a two year stent as well. I think they feel this will "cement the doctrines" in their little brains.
Just prepare for them and try your best to plant seeds of truth in their heads.

And by the way....True Christians should have that much zeal..... If Only!

Just start asking some real deep questions and they'll leave you alone. Some came to my house and talked to my mom once and she asked them a ton of questions they couldn't answer. They've never been back.
