Ah timelines. I love it. Jesus wasn't born in the yr 0 hun... there is no yr 0... most scholars believe he was born around 4-6 BC. AD is not what you think it is. And though we view the calendar that way now, it certainly didn't happen that way. They weren't counting backwards during the BC Era, they had their own calendar. And our's has changed twice. The first change in the calendar actually came about almost a century after what we call 1 AD ^_^
The rest of the world was struggling with Roman rule, just like Israel was. You have to realize that Rome owned 1/3 of the civilized world at that time.

actually, the calendar is wrong. the change from 1bc to 1 ad occurred at the new year after Jesus was born...so there was no time 'lost'. However, most scholars now believe, based on a careful reading of the texts, the Jesus was actually born somewhere between 4 and 6 bc

AD started after Jesus's birth. So in theory at least he lived from 0 - 33 AD (ish)
However, during the intervening years the dates and calendar have got a bit messed up, so they think he lived from about 4AD - I think. Something to do with when King Herod (the one who killed all the babies) lived etc.

AD is not After Death; it stands for Anno Domini, Latin for The Year of Our Lord.
The year AD1 followed the year 1 BC (there is no year 0).
