where did God come from. they both usually have the same answer, and make the asker really crazy because it seems like they didn't answer the question. But something had to have always existed, something had to be eternal im not going to say which one i think it is or which one there is evidence for because it doesn't matter, please stop asking questions like that.

Time only makes sense within the context of the universe. The universe provides us with our very meanings of space and time. When you measure time you are really measuring change between two states of the universe.

Therefore it is a tautology to say the Universe always existed. Time is part of the universe so the statement the universe existed for ALL time is of course true. We define time as what we measure by clocks WITHIN the universe.

This does not imply that the universe has existed for an infinite amount of time. We don't know whether it has or not. But by definition it HAS existed for ALL time.

The idea that time is something apart from the universe went out with Einstein. Christians need to make better arguments.

Did God have a beginning?

Ps. 90:2: “Before the mountains themselves were born, or you proceeded to bring forth as with labor pains the earth and the productive land, even from time indefinite to time indefinite you are God.”

Is that reasonable? Our minds cannot fully comprehend it. But that is not a sound reason for rejecting it. Consider examples: (1) Time. No one can point to a certain moment as the beginning of time. And it is a fact that, even though our lives end, time does not. We do not reject the idea of time because there are aspects of it that we do not fully comprehend. Rather, we regulate our lives by it. (2) Space. Astronomers find no beginning or end to space. The farther they probe into the universe, the more there is. They do not reject what the evidence shows; many refer to space as being infinite. The same principle applies to the existence of God.

Other examples: (1) Astronomers tell us that the heat of the sun at its core is 27,000,000 degrees Fahrenheit (15,000,000° C.). Do we reject that idea because we cannot fully comprehend such intense heat? (2) They tell us that the size of our Milky Way is so great that a beam of light traveling at over 186,000 miles per second (300,000 km/sec) would require 100,000 years to cross it. Do our minds really comprehend such a distance? Yet we accept it because scientific evidence supports it.

Which is more reasonable—that the universe is the product of a living, intelligent Creator? or that it must have arisen simply by chance from a nonliving source without intelligent direction? Some persons adopt the latter viewpoint because to believe otherwise would mean that they would have to acknowledge the existence of a Creator whose qualities they cannot fully comprehend. But it is well known that scientists do not fully comprehend the functioning of the genes that are within living cells and that determine how these cells will grow. Nor do they fully understand the functioning of the human brain. Yet, who would deny that these exist? Should we really expect to understand everything about a Person who is so great that he could bring into existence the universe, with all its intricate design and stupendous size?

Therefore, God has always existed while the universe has a beginning. As written in Genesis 1:1, "In [the] beginning God created the heavens and the earth."

How can you ask someone not to ask a question...one of the most basic of philosophical questions at that. If you're frustrated trying to answer, then don't. Having been at this site just a short time I see where some questions are asked over and over ad nauseum but I assume to the asker it's a new question. As long as one is not violating yahoos standards ie. insulting other members, threatening, etc just let them ask and move on to other questions that interest you.

Those two questions are not the same.
Because we know there is a universe but we don`t know that there is a god, in fact we can`t have evidence that there is a god because then there would be no need for faith and religion is based on faith.

Yes, I realize that. I also realize we are incapable of thinking about timelessness, which means it isn't a valid concept. All such questions invariably end up presuming the existence of time before the existence of time. (even that statement makes such a presumption!)

Good point Jean Luc, Creationist (I'm one) can not tell you where God came from, and evolutionist can't tell you where...uh??? Oh, they have not settled on a starting point yet-they are still looking for it. But when they do figure out just how this all started-they still will not know where it (whatever it is) came from. Good show-engage!

micro-organisms evolved over time. I don't think humans evolved from monkeys or anything, but there had to be some sort of bacteria or something that started it.

It is true that God created the heavens and the earth. As written in Genesis 1:1

Firstly, I would like to say that I believe in God as the creator of heaven and earth and evertything in it. I believe in God because he is God. I have seen His work in people's lives. God's word which can be found in the Bible has changed people's lives like mine. And believing that God is eternal and the One who created everything makes our life meaningful because I believe that seeing life in the way God wants us to see will make us eager to know our creator in a deeper sense. For me, we have to know the reality why God created us. We are not just to be born, go to school, get married, and die. Life is not ended in that. I hope all people will understand the truth about God.

People in the past who didn't know about God invented their gods. They didn't know that there is a one true God who created the heavens and the earth and everything in it. My ancestors are my best example. They believed and feared in a god and in spirits that would punish them when they do things against their god's will or when they don't appease the evil spirits of their dead ancestors. They also believed that the dead people's spirit goes to the big bodies of water (what a belief). My ancestors have been blinded by satan ( I know that satan is not known by all people but I would like to tell the truth). Then when my parents were taught of the truth about God, they were freed from the fear of evil spirits. That is God's work in the life of many people once called "heathen".

The truth was, the missionaries who came in our village were from the West. So I lived some years of my life believing that all White people are believers of God. It was in my high school days when I realized that not all of them do. But still, my respect to white people didn't decrease because I am very thankful to those who came and lived with us and taught us the truth about God. Now, Many people in my country have no fear of evil spirits because they believed that Jesus Christ paid all their sins and that being in Christ, they also won over evil. Also, I have no fear in death because I believe in the eternal life in heaven for those who believe in God, in Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.

I am aware that I didn't answer the question, but I hope that this testimony will open the mind of some or even one who will give time reading it. It is true, God did create the heavens and the earth and everything in it. It is really hard to understand all these things but I believe and I assure you that you will find peace in mind when you believe in God. John 14:6 says " Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. " We can't understand who God is when we do not let God to speak to us through his Words written in the Bible. Our questions about Jesus Christ the only Son of God who paid the sins of all mankind will also be answered in the Bible. I am one of the millions of people in the world believing, worshipping and serving the one true God for I am aware that my life is not only to enjoy life here on earth by doing what I want to do but by doing what is according to God's word despite my weaknesses.

Psalms 118:6-9
6 The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?
7 The Lord is with me; he is my helper.
I will look in triumph on my enemies.
8 It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in man.
9 It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in princes.
