Honestly, I didn't care. My husband proposed to me without any drama, on the shore of a lake, in total seclusion. He told me he knew he was going to propose to me long before but he hadn't known where, when, or how. We went to the lake on a whim, horsed around for a bit, and watched the sunset over the lake. Shortly after the sunset all the way he pulled me close, kissed me, and then whispered into my ear his proposal. No getting down on one knee, no elaborate speech. He hadn't even found a ring yet. He said he just knew the moment was right. There had been no advance planning, no elaborate set-up, just a feeling that he had found the perfect moment, and honestly, to know that my guy was that sensitive and that caring to pop the question when there was no ring and no formal set up was amazing to me. He asked at that exact moment for no other reason then it felt right. But I'm a romantic sap.

I wouldn't have had it any other way. Personally I like the idea of waiting till the right moment. A time when you know in your heart it is right. But again, romantic sap. Planned proposals can be cute and touching and something she (or he) will always remember. Cater to what your significant other would dig. Not what Yahoo Answers can provide.

My husband proposed at a large charity event, in front of a huge crowd! I shook for about an hour afterward but was so happy. He got so nervous he didn't say anything he had planned, but he got the important words out. It was truly beautiful! I had known a proposal was coming, just didn't know the when or where. I have to say I had wanted a private proposal because it seemed completely romantic in every way...but my husband did it best. We are both quiet people and proposing in front of a crowd is not easy. He wanted everyone to know that we were going to get married - I thought that was really cute. The only thing was, there was a photographer there who took our pictures all during the proposal. We had hoped to get the photos mailed to us afterward, but it never happened. Fortunately, I remember it as if it were yesterday!

For me, it would be private. It's a private moment between the 2 of you. After she's said yes, then announce to whole world!!!!

My husband proposed to me on the beach. It was just the 2 of us.

Private, because it is more personal. I would rather us be by ourselves then have to worry about other people around, and not being able to hear what they are saying. It is more romantic when you are private. I would prefer it to be private and low key.

I always wanted a big public display but I got a wonderfully romantic private proposal. He followed his heart and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Well for me it would be private, but you would have to think what the girl would like also.
