You can only back them up to your hard drive, but here's how to do it:
Save a DVD to your Computer
If you have a large hard drive, or an external hard drive, you can make a full copy of the DVD to your hard drive using DVD Decrypter.
Note: The file will be between 6GB-8.5GB depending on how long the movie is and how many extra features are on the disc.
You can download DVD decrypter from the link below.
DVD Decrypter Download Page
http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/
Daemon Tools Download Page
http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/download.php?mode=ViewCategory&catid=5
You'll also need to install Daemon Tools, which I've also included a link for.
After installing DVD decrypter, insert the DVD and close any DVD player programs that appear.
Open DVD Decrypter and select Mode > ISO > Read
Now, click on the little folder icon where it shows the save location and choose a folder to save the DVD File.
Now click File > Decrypt.
This process will take approx. 20-40min. depending on the speed of your DVD Drive, and luckily you can do this with a mere DVD-ROM drive.
Note: Make sure you use a disc that is not scratched and is in the best possible condition.
When it's finished and has completed successfully, close DVD Decrypter.
You can eject the DVD movie.
Make sure you've installed Daemon Tools.
Open Daemon Tools.
Now look in bottom right corner of your screen (system tray) for an icon with a lightning bolt.
Right click on that icon and go to Virtual CD/DVD Drives > Mount Image and navigate to the folder with the DVD file that you just created.
If DVDs automatically load when you insert them into your computer, the DVD should start playing!!

In my opinion the best software to burn CDs/DVDs is Ashampoo Burning. It's a free software and it can be downloaded here: http://bitly.com/1sW2AWq
If you want to make a DVD that will work on a common DVD player, you definitely need a burning software. Copying the movie as is directly to a new DVD it's not the right way to do it (If you do so your DVD player will not be able to play the video/movie properly).
The most reliable DVD burning program I used it Ashampoo Burning. It works with all types of videos and music (both with DVDs and CDs). Ashampoo is a very modern and professional software (you can also edit videos and create DVD menus)

You can copy and store a Movie onto your HD using a DVDROM...but you can burn nothin...
CloneDVD can do that...just don't delete the files it copies for the DVD burn...You can also Covert the DVD files into Divx or Xvid..this will save you tons of room on your HD by using a lot of Compression...
You'll also have to use a DVD Decriptor Like AnyDVD to be able to copy the movie to begin with....

You can copy the movies to your hard drive using DVDFab Decrypter, but you will not be able to burn them to blank DVDs unless you get a DVD burner. A CD writer will not do.

You can split the movie into parts, write the parts to cd's, take the cds to a friend who has dvd writer, join the split files and write it to a dvd.
Here is a simple splitter.
