Since you just started feeding your shitzu the raw diet, start it off slow so it isn't a shock to the system and increase the amounts slowly. I wouldn't feed the dog more than 3 cups per day, and that should be adequate enough for the shitzu. All my dogs eat the raw diet, but I still feed a high protein dogfood in between feedings of the raw diet, i just do not feed as much of the dogfood as i feel the raw diet is better for them. I have a 19 year old sheltie in people years, that only eats the raw diet and she is still living and getting around pretty good. WITH NO HEALTH PROBLEMS, NO VET BILLS, other than her annual shots and wormings, she has never been the vet for any thing else, and neither has any of my other 10 dogs.

Any small cloth toy will be fine. Their puppy teeth are really sharp so if the dog still has them you might go through quite a few toys. Also try to find some kind of chew stick for her, my dog loves those and will not leave it anywhere. That helps with their teeth also and they love the taste. For the food I am using Eukaniba. There was just a big re-call on the Iam's can food and their pouches so stay away from those. I am going to throw mine away. Hope this was helpful.

I agree completely with Blu star and the articles recommended are very fair-non-biased and ACCURATE!!! -I have seen quite a few dogs with bone problems and vitamin deficiencies because of a raw-food diet.We do and can recommend homemade diets but these are formulated by a veterinary nutritionist(not a layman) and come with vitamin pre-mix and calcium carbonate-or bone meal with the proper calcium to phosphorus ratios for a dogs health. You also have to understand that ratio of body weight -ingredients and kcals to properly feed your dog.

You should really talk to a vet about that. Dogs systems have developed past eating raw diets, there can be serious consequences of feeding your dog a raw diet. If you don't know how much your dog should be eating, it means you haven't done enough research to make this decision for your dog. Do some research and have your pet's health evaluated before switching him, please!

Dogs should be fed commercial grade, high quality dog food like Iams, Eukanuba, or Science Diet. Dogs should not be given table scraps or raw meat. The bacteria in raw meats could harm a little Shih Tzu.

Take my advice:

NEVER feed your Shi-Tzu RAW food.Raw food has LOTS of germs and bacteria. Feed your little puppy dog food.

If your Shi-Tzu is a new born then give him/her his/her mothers milk(like breast milk)If you bought or got this shi-tzu as a gift, then go to the nearest vet or the pet shop you bought him/her from and ask what you should feed him/her..
