Start planning now. It is never too soon to start collecting things you need and making reservations. Some places may need you to wait till they open their books. The place we took our honeymoon didn't take reservations until three months in advance. We chose it with five months to go.
Start shopping now. Especially since you can hit the two after season sales. Check for dresses and invites this month and next (those things you can never have too early). Check for favors and such after Christmas. Those are the two biggest wedding months of the year (June and December) so afterwards stores are always ready to get rid of the last season's stuff.
I think your date is just fine. Who cares if other people get married on that date? It will be special to you two and that's all that matters, (But just in case reserve early)

You only have a year. Start planning now. Places book up fast. So do florists, photographers, etc.
A recommendation about a photographer is to NOT pick a company that has a lot of photographers working for them. That means that they hire anyone with a professional camera. Go to small places and really get to know the person. If you get a bad vibe, go to the next place. A bad vibe at first could mean a bad vibe at the wedding and you really don't want that at all.

It is a great idea to start planning your wedding. I am getting married this Saturday and we started planning over a year ago, and it is the best thing we could have ever done because we had our catering, DJ, photographer, and bakery booked ahead of time so we aren't crunching for the last minute, and we had the church, and reception site booked. We knew what we wanted so we haven't been that stressed out. We have been ahead of schedule and we could relax and enjoy our planning.
Good luck with your planning and congratulations

Start planning NOW! Especially if you have a certain venue, reception hall, or church you really had in mind. I'm getting married in August, got engaged in Dec. and made arrangements with the ceremony/reception hall, the beginning of January. The earlier you book, the better. That way you'll get the date you want.
Good Luck!

No, it's not too early to start planning. It's almost a year away and places book up fast because this is when people start planning for next year's weddings. Book your wedding and reception site now - that was one problem we had when we got married - everything was booked!

If you like that date...who cares what anyone else has.
My wedding date is 5/19/07 and I have my dress, veil, tiara,, hall booked, catering booked and the center pieces. The earlier you start the better because less hassle later on!

That is actually the same day my sister is getting married.
I think now is the perfect time to start planning. If you wait to long and do everything at the end, it will become overwhelming and stress you out. If you start now doing a little bit here and there, by the time your wedding gets here, you will have less on your mind.
