Has anyone ever asked about somone else's religion from their stand point? (i.e. have you asked a jewish person about the jewish faith, or a christian person about christianity?) I have done this and it has been very helpful to get many views on the same religion. Has anyone done the same, and if not have you considered it?

Yes. After 9/11 I became interested in what Islam was about so I got on the Internet and met a few Muslims. I didn't want to let the fear and anger in the media influence me. I found out a lot fo good things about Islam and about Muslims. The main thing was that they were people with the same wants and needs as me. They just have chosen a different path to God. I also talked to Hindus, Buddhist, and now even atheist. We are all equal in the end. Spread love and light up the world.

That is a good question. I believe every person of a religious nature should. We will never understand which is right or wrong. I have done that, and made changes accordingly. What you do with that information after you ask it will determine your spiritual growth. Most people belong to particular religion or denomination just because that's where their parents were as they grew up. Its good to grow up in a church, but as you grow you should search fro the truth. Most people don't, they just dig in where they started and never look up. And because of that attitude-just look at the mess in the so-called Christian church today. Most everyone believes in a particular denomination and they forget about the One who is the head of the church. There is only one Jesus, but many wrong ideas about Him. I think we all need to repent and ask Gods forgiveness. If there really, really is a God, then either God lied to us--- or there really is a hell. If there is really a hell, it looks to me as though we are not acting like we believe it.

Well, I was raised a Christian and continue to discuss Christianity with Christians, esp. a Baptist friend of mine who keeps gently prodding me to convert. I learned of the Baha'i Faith in high school -- talked to Baha'is, read, studied, prayed, became convinced it was the truth and converted. I work with a number of Indians and have discussed their religion with them (I send them ecards for Holi and Diwali). And when I visited the Holy Land years ago, I spent a few wonderful hours sitting in a shop discussing Islam with the owner. I've discussed Islam with others, but that conversation stands out in my memory because of the place and because of Ziad's knowledge of the Qur'an. When the Jehovah Witnesses came knocking on my door, I invited them in and we did Bible study for awhile because I wanted to learn about their beliefs. I also have a friend who is Wiccan and we discuss religion. So I guess I'd have to say yes...
:-)

I've also taken a few comparative religion / world religion (whatever the college called it) classes which covered a broad spectrum of religions impartially and have a number of Scriptures of various religions downloaded on my laptop to make searching easier. I think the more you understand about other religions, the more you understand about other people and cultures -- and, ultimately, the world in general. I think understanding other people's beliefs builds bridges between people.

yes i do it alot, and its amazing all the different answers that come from people who seem to believe in the same "god" or "religion".

once i was asking these indian guys about there Hindu beliefs, and one of em thought there were 1000 gods, the other, only 150, and one of them said there elephant god (i cant remember what its called) had six arms and the other was convinced it was eight!!!! so asking people not only reveals how they work, it also shows who is actually committed and who just wears the "I believe in some kind of god" nametag.

Myself? i believe in Jesus, i believe in the Father God in heaven, and the Holy Spirit living inside of me. I am a Christian. not a label-wearing person, a Christian. if you asked me questions about my religion, i would tell u honestly, and if i didnt know, id go and find out for you.

its enjoyable to ask people of other faiths about there religion, for me, it makes me go "thank God i know God!"

of course i have! knowing about others religion is essential, first of all, to know what ppl believe in, and to be able to talk about the subject later on without sounding dumb and going "oh, um, what does that mean??" ppl need to kno mroe about other cultures, because thats what the world is made of...cultures, i'm christian, but i'm very interested in the muslim faith, because of the americans discriminating them and thinking at first glance that they're "bad". but afterer talking with em, i;v found theyre just like u and me...:-D

Picard is right ....we should exchange our views with eachother ....but 1 point .......be firm on ur religion ....but as soon as u get enough resons to convert and that u feel that the other person's religion is far better than mine ( not far better but it is true )... then he should convert ....

Its a great way to understand how those people see their faith. I wish more people could be so openminded.
