What are the bad points to be considered when discussing the nature nurture debate?

What do you mean by "bad"?
Usually the discussion centers on whether a good upbringing can overcome bad genes--let's' say a child from a long line of people with various insanities is adopted into a perfectly sane family. Will the child grow up more sane than if it had been raised by its insane parents? Or vice versa. Basically which is more important, what you are taught or what you are born with?
