I was baptized at 12, but never really "walked the talk" until the last several years. Should I get rebaptized or does the first one count? Reason, when you are baptized, you are remitting sin, but my motivation wasn't really my seeking Christ, but more so pressure from family.

I am not worried about "doctrine", man made rules, but want to do what Christ and the bible says. There is one bible, but many denominations and opinions. I don't think God lets us make up rules that "feel right" for an individual.

This really depends on what doctrine your particular religious denomination has for baptism. In many faiths, baptisms are performed on children, and once baptized, there is no need to be re-baptized. However, in the catholic faith, for instance, there is "Confirmation", which is more closely related to your question. Confirmation is the conscious act of confirming your belief in the catholic faith, the catholic church, and it's teachings. In other protestant religions, there are dedications...which can serve the same purpose as the catholic "confirmation".
You should really discuss this with the leader of your church. That person would be the most experienced in guiding you along this path.

There is a preacher around my neighborhood who's fond of saying, "You can get baptized over and over again until you know all the fish by name, but what's really important is what's in your heart."
The Baptistism in water is largely a symbolic gesture; if you think that getting re-baptized would help your spiritual path, or that of another, then go for it--its not the most important part though.

what do you think? Why were you baptized? To please your family and not to get so much pressure from them? Is that the reason for you to be baptized? If that is the reason for your baptism at 12, then you just got wet. If now that you know what it is to be baptized, for the forgiveness of your sins, and that the Lord Jesus died in your place and He lives again and therefore if you are with Him in His death you will be with Him in His resurrection. What to do? Repent of your sins, confess that Jesus is the Christ, be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins, and walk in newness of life.

Baptism by water is repentance of your sins. With you it was different, you were baptised when you were not ready but with time God called you so you can serve Him. So since you have repented of your sins and you were baptised with water the only thing left if it has not yet taken place is for you to be baptised with the Holy Spirit then you are totally saved unless if you backslide. I wish you all the support you may need in continuing walking with Crhist because the Devil will not leave you alone so please stay strong, the reward is much greater than you can imagine. May God bless you and stay strong.

i say go ahead and do it! re-baptizing is good when you feel it in your heart and you know what's going on, but once i kept getting baptized over and over again and the pastor of the church told me, once you've been baptized you don't need to be done over and over again just because you feel something...once was confirmation of your heart to God and that's all i needed. but it sure did feel good! lol...i was baptized at 12 and then again in my early 20's....maybe 2 or 3 times after that (a stage in my life)...but anyway, do it again and live by the washing of the word of God..

Yes you should get re baptized. i am sure it would make you feel better so you arent wondering if you should or not. Just ask your preacher is he could do it after church or sometime. my preacher baptized me after church in a river. Oh that water was cold but it felt good to give my soul to christ!

If you feel like you are ready to be baptized for the right reason, go for it! I think it's great. Baptism should really mean something to you. If it takes doing it again, I think it's great.

I agree with "house87".
Baptism is merely an outward side of your confession to Jesus Christ. If you feel you really committed now, it would be permissable.
But, be careful not to make a mockery of it. Be totally confident that your commitment is sure this time...

It couldn't hurt. If you want to, go right ahead! ;)
I too was pressured to be "saved and baptized". Now I think the whole Chrisitan religion (Southern Baptist for me) is a bunch of hooey.

i've been in your place before. at 15 my mom pushed me to get baptized, so i did it, although at that age i didn't have a clue what i was doing or why. at 19 i re-did it b/c it's what i wanted to do. of course people fall and sin reguardless...but this was more real to me. so whatever your heart says...go for it.
