1. If the intended answer is for you, I am going to shadow what others have said by saying to look at the things that concern you. There are thousands of nonprofits and foundations out there. Check out www.charitynavigator.com. It was set up for the sole purpose of helping people find legitimate charities. They even rank them for you.
2. I would give to City Year. It's a nonprofit that provides work experience to 17-24 year olds. They do all types of work - Katrina Disaster Relief in Louisiana, AIDS education in DC, and literacy education from Seattle to South Africa. Each site has its own focus (because each community is different). I've worked at Ciy Year New Hampshire for the last two years, and I love it I've learned a lot from the middle schoolers I work with and vice versa. Check it out at www.cityyear.org. They also make giving very easy.

I, personally, would probably give it either to my church or to St. Judes Children's Hospital. I would also go to charitynavigator.org to check out a charity before I gave it any money. They tell you how much of your dollar goes to the actual charity and how much goes to administration and fund raising. You'd be surprised how little money some of the charities actually get.

Anyone that works with and safeguards abused children. These are the ones closest to God's heart.
You can tell this by the judgement He places on those who abuse the little ones, "....it will be better for them if they were never born."
I especially love the ranches that do this, even the most "shut down" child seems to open up when connected to a nice quiet horse.

Well to the poor children maybe it's better to buy it something than giving money I just think that it is better because If you give it to the charity you are not sure about that, I just think... It's better to buy something and give it than to give money because maybe they will use it in another way I mean you know that already...

I wouldn't give it to charity-most of them take 30-50% or more for administration cost-I'd find a needy family though a church and give it directly to them (hand to hand) so they can feed their family or pay for rent or utilities--Charities are a Rip Off!~!!

If you intend to give your money to charity...you really need to ask yourself what you truly care about. Many people give to the International Red Cross, for instance, because they believe in helping those, both at home and abroad, that cannot help themselves. Others give to charities that focus on particular things, such as breast cancer research or St. Judes Hospital. For me personally, I give to programs that support children at home, like Duke Children's Hospital (http://www.dukechildrens.org/), or SmartStart programs that help give children what they need to succeed in school.

I would give it to a veterans organization thats helps families that lose their fathers, or mothers in combat. A little bit of money is the least people can do for this ultimate sacrifice.
