The first 2 years are consinder a "probation time". If you stay out of trouble, you can apply for the Permanent Alien Resident card, or citizenship.

Join the military. Cuts the time to 3 years.

I am not sure, but if I believe if you live in the country and don't travel anywhere, break any laws, pay all taxes.....you can apply for citizenship in two years.
