That really depends on your religion, doesn't it? As a Christian, I know that Christian theology holds something like what others have already mentioned: there definitely is a heaven, there certainly is a hell, but animals go to neither for they have no soul that lives on after death (putting them in the same catagory as plants and other things of a solely physical nature).
Other persuasions will say other things though: Buhdism holds that all creatures are reincarnated to walk the earth again (unless they have acheived enlightenment, and I don't think that happens amoung the animals). Materialism would say that there is no such thing as soul, and that all life ends at death, the afterlife is a figment. New age, or other spirituallity, may offer the possibillity of an animal soul remaining here on Earth.

Well, I'm not sure if animals have souls,or not, but if they do, they all will go to Heaven! Animals have no concept of good and evil, and they don't do bad things intentionally like humans. Everything animals do is based on instinct, or what they've been taught by us. So there are no "bad" animals, just "bad" people.

I would like to believe especially after my dog died that there is a special place for animals people can say they don't have a soul but anybody who has owned and taken care of a puppy to a dog knows that they see feel and hear things just as we do..they feel pain, they want, need and cry. They love. So it makes sense to believe that there is a special spot for them in heaven....because even the vicious animals have their horrible owners to blame for their behavior.

I think it depends on what you believe.
Roman Catholics believe animals have no souls; thus they don't go anywhere after they die.
I'm Catholic but simply can't believe animals don't have souls.
I think they go to heaven, and why would they go to hell? Even in the wild, animals are doing what they are supposed to be doing. And the domesticated pet is a loyal, loving friend for many years.

Virtually they are in the recycle bin of Desktop. They come back in the next form depending upon their unfinished 'desires' of past lives..... so goes the belief. Going to heaven or hell is only symbolic way of telling how your experience of life is going to be.
Incidentally, there no such thing as death. It is a reference to absence of life, just as absence of light is darkness, absence of heat (or less of heat) is called cold etc. Hence there is no 'going' anywhere. The life energy changes form according to the 'charge' of its direction(like a bullet from a rifle), till it gets ultimate freedom to merge eternally with its origin the Universal Energy ( you call it by what ever name !).

I think the answer i was given as a child to this question upset me more than a lot of things in my life. (It was that they didn't get an afterlife)
I say, animals totally go to heaven, eventually, or something.

There is a place between heaven and hell, I dont remember the name, but you can say they are sent to limbo
limbo - (theology) in Roman Catholicism, the place of unbaptized but innocent or righteous souls (such as infants and virtuous individuals)

Since heaven is a spiritual place they would n't go there, but more likely they will come back as pets on the earth. There is no mention in the bible. They cannot sin, so they cannot displease God. There are articles on our website you might want to read.

It all depends on your religion I suppose. In Judaism their is NO afterlife for animals- only humans, created in the likeness of God have a divine soul, animals merely an animating spirit that dies with them.
