Hard to say. Some guys use that term pretty lightly. Others, having no idea how to better judge whether a lady wants to get married, will drop words like that and try to gauge your reaction. If you want to marry him make sure to react to when he calls you wife or makes reference to married life. Or just flat out talk to him.

Well I was seeing this bloke for about 6 months and that's what he used to call me, Mostly though it was in front of certain people but not all, he called me his "wife" when we were in the company of good looking blokes but never when there were attractive single women about, then I was referred to as a "mate". The reason was he was very possessive, insecure and jealous, and always on the look out for another woman to boost his ego. It was never said as a term of endearment but more to state to others that I was his property. I did what another answerer suggested and called his bluff, I suggested we move in together and get married, lol he met another woman 2 days later! But I am so much happier and now he wants me back, (NO DAMN CHANCE!!)

Cripes.

If you have to be worried and nervous about his intentions, then you have no self-respect.

Life is too short to waste on people who play word games. YOU let HIM know that you expect to be made an honest woman someday by someone and until then, you're just playing the field with all options open.

If he's serious, he'll "lock you in" with a marriage proposal. If not, then start fishing elsewhere.

words do not give any feelings - your inner sense or true feeling will be the best to be guided by. do not ask anyone else as 9 months is a decent time to know abt yr bfriend

He might be just messing around...

Call his bluff, and say "Okay, if you consider me to be your wife, let's move in together and see how it goes... Then how about we get engaged and married a year later"

If he goes pail and does an impression of a goldfish, then he isn't serious... But it is always fun watching someone suffer like that!!! :D

Not necessarily, but maybe. It might just be a nickname or he might really love you and want to marry you. Either way, you should talk to him and find out how he feels and let him know how you feel too!

Don't get too souped. Lots of guys do that and it means nothing. Its just another way for some of them to say girlfriend.

my b/f calls me wife as well, and he tells everyone he works with that I am his wife, but I don't think it means he is going to propose, it's just another term of endearment, like girlfriend/partner etc. I hope your b/f does propose to you!

well he may be saying it so that you won't think that he wants anyone but you, good for you. unless you are ready to get married then you should drop it. if you do want to get married i say start calling him hubby and then one day ask when you are going to make it official.
