for those of you who've had braces and had to wear the elastics that go from one row of teeth to the other, what kind of configuration or pattern did you have wear?

I had two, from my canine teeth to my molars, and from one back from the canine to the molars, but at different times. Don't try and twist the bands into any configuration (like an '8') unless the orthodontist says to. Ask your orthodontist what s/he wants you to do and then do it.

I was *very* good about my rubber bands and taking care of my teeth and following orders, and I got my braces off an entire *year* early.

My daughter has to wear elastics on each side. They hook onto two of the top teeth and go down and hook onto one of the bottom teeth. It's the same on both sides.

She hates wearing the elastics, but wants to get out of her braces sooner rather than later, so she wears them. Most of the time.

It depends on what type of bite you have. There's several different ways to wear elastics and if you use the incorrect configuration you will make your bite worse. Ask your orthodontist.

I had an elastic from my upper right canine to lower left canine -- yes, crossed diagonally. The intention was to fix my midline.
