According to you people in the past god did stuff to people who didn't believe in him he caused plagues an things like that. But now there are more atheists than ever before he doesn’t seem to care. Did he just get bored? Or perhaps he doesn't exist at all and the bible is just a story book.

No if everyone got rid of god we would have peace as god is the main cause of hatred in the world. People have a different opinion of him so they attack those who have a different opinion to them. We will only have peace when there is no more god.

God is as believable as a quality American car! - Which is not at all! Personally I think the plagues were just exaggerated by that big book of silly stories

The life in you, and the breath you still breathe has been given to you by HIM. And because HE cares for you, HE has allowed you to go on breathing - hoping, someday, like the prodigal son, you'd come back looking for HIM.
Every one has been given a FREE WILL. To choose to do what he wants which included believing or not believing in HIM. He has allowed some time to pass. Soon, he'll come calling.
At that time friend, you wont find him bored and not caring. HE'll be busy taking an account from every one - u including and then you'll find that HE exists and the Bible was not a story book - but a caring book - warning you of the consequences of denying God.

Tom: Have you ever heard the phrase a watched pot of water never boils? It's because as we are watching the pot of water, it doesn't seem to be doing anything. We watch and wait, watch and wait and it isn't doing anything. Then suddenly, or so it seems, the water is boiling, bubbles all over the place. What happened? It only "seemed" to be doing nothing. In fact, it was doing quite a bit. It is similar with God. Some feel he doesn't care because it seems he isn't doing anything. But he actually is quite busy doing something. And we can learn about that something. So that when the water starts boiling, we won't be surprised – for we will have seen the undercurrent of activity all along.

It has been my understanding that these are the only things that God can't do (and strangely enough, we have a hard time at this too!) : making someone BELIEVE in you or LOVE you. People have taken to task this belief in God and God was found lacking by those that did not believe or love Him. Science to this day has still failed to tell us exactly what dreams are yet we do not debate relentlessly on the existence of them---could it be that we realize that because it is both a personal and non-physical experience that we simply do not possess a physical means to confirm or deny the existence of dreams? God does care---but do YOU believe it? No one dreams--- but do you believe that? It only matters to those that want it to and what is gained from it can only be discerned through the spirit---your belief is what gives it credence and your faith is what makes it real...

You said a lot of truth there abut causing hate or dislikes
Think of this God (IF it exist or Not) the belief of God is here to stay and I belief it is not for him to care but us to care, people are still persecuted because they don't believe in God or Gods teaching, it just in different ways
I'm sure you been to church before, and in some the preacher is boring because he didn't excite you and in other churches the preacher set the place on fire, well it like watching the pre game show before a football game, the preacher build his sermon on hype because they want so much to kill the demon and to here that all the sinners are going to hell and burn forever and they the winner will live in heaven praising the lord, but they really have no idea exactly what that really means, but they think they are the winner, so the hype the preacher gave them will cause discomfort

Personally I believe that there must be a higher power at work everyday.
Some may call that power God, others Allah, Krishna or whatever religion they've chosen.
I think that God does care and the answers you are getting from Him might seem wrong only because you aren't asking the right questions...
How about just changing your outlook and saying "God does care.."
You will see much more positive things on earth than just the negatives like HIV, cancer etc.....

the stories of the plague are somehow still a question that lies in our head..was it true or not? There are things in our own lives that we can consider as plagues and that makes us want God more...maybe u should consider this, GOD must be the center of our lives because when we think of him we always try to be better people...if everyone else would make GOD as the center of their lives, we would all have peace in our hearts!

God deals with people in these steps:
1st Spiritually By His Holy Spirit (That inner voice telling us right from wrong)
2nd Communicated with us through the Bible (His written word)
3rd Communicates to us via Church's and other believers
4th Communicates to us through nature
5th When all else fail God becomes silent then comes the judgment

You sound very bitter, I'm not saying I believe in God, I don't, but the idea of God gives some people's life a profound sense of meaning. It is not our place or right to belittle that. It is possible to disagree with religious principles and persecution without putting every religious person who have the guts to stand up for what they believe in on trial. To me you don't sound that different from the people you criticize.
