The process you have been through has been hard, no doubt. But after the loss of your pet, having a neighbors dog come and visit was of great benefit for you.....allowing you to heal from the pain, yet give and receive love to another dog. You bonded and feel the loss which is normal, and tells you that you can love another and are ready for another dog in your life. Your pain is only a symbol of how much you are capable of loving...you can't love without feeling loss when it is gone...but it doesn't mean we should forego the feelings. The amount of love far out weighs the amount of pain...it is a part of life.. I think you are ready for another dog...why not rescue one..in a sense rescuing each other. There is a dog out there that needs you as much as you need him/her. take care and God bless....

You obviously have a big place in your heart for dogs so don't try to deny yourself a loving relationship with one. Go to the Humane Society or other animal rescue place and let the dog pick you out. The breed doesn't matter so much as the bond that will form. Yes, it's heartbreaking when your pet dies but you must tell yourself that's just the cycle of life. The companionship that you and your dog have during a dog's relatively short life is what matters. My heart goes out to you.

life is not the same with a pet , cat or dog. I lost my 14 year old dog in Oct but i got another when she was 12. A home is not a home if you are use to having dogs . My biggest fear is my dog will out live me. My sister said , she'll take her. I'm 49 but when you love them , you worry. Get another dog , get it from a shelter and enjoy. My sister always gets the older dogs that their owners have died. She always has good luck with them . She just got a 3 legged boxer no one wanted and he's the best dog !!! Good luck and go get one , you will be glad you did.

By all means get yourself a companion! But another thought here for you. The humane society is always looking for foster homes for their smaller dogs and puppies. You could volunteer to do that, as well as adopting or buying your own little friend:-)

OR you could start a pet sitting service. This is something there is much need for. I have clients who take their pups to "doggy daycare", and private homes. Some folks go to the dogs home and take them out a few times a day. It is a great income too I might add.

PS: I also have a yokrie and they are such wonderful little dogs!

How sad! I'm sorry to hear that you won't have that little Yorkie around anymore. I'm sure you're miss him very much.

While you can never replace one dog for another, it's still nice to have paw pads shuffling around the house, and a dogless house can be way too quiet. Something else you can try is a local Yorkie where you can meet a number of dogs to find one that fits in well with you.

you should become a surrogate mother for pets at the local humane society. you could take them home with you and get them used to humane touch. some are tramatized bein gplace in there and others miss the people they loved for so long. maybe for a while you can show them that they are still loved, help them with injured pets or ones that are almost ready to be adopted out. your last dog and the passion you have for them will save many and give some families years of happiness. after a while you will get the hang of not getting attached and you 'll always have one around you . but not the life taking over part.... god luck friend

Go to your local animal shelter and adopt a dog. Sounds like your home would be a wonderful place for a new baby. Good Luck.

You have a big heart, and I can understand where you're coming from. Why don't you try volunteering at a local animal hospital, or animal shelter for a couple of months, and then make your decision.
